Conflicting Reports Surround Daniel Fells’ Life-Threatening Foot Infection

It's hoped that Fells has made a breakthrough as of late.

While reports to the contrary abound, it's not yet 100 percent confirmed that New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells has had part of his foot amputated, although he does remain hospitalized with a potentially life-threatening infection.

Bleacher Report NFL Insider Jason Cole reported Monday that Fells had had a portion of his foot removed, as doctors tried to stop the infection from spreading. According to Cole's source, “the situation” is far more serious than initially thought and the 32-year-old’s career on the football field has officially ended.

While there is legitimate concern that the staph infection may reach Fells' bloodstream, Giants beat reporter Jordan Raanan rejected Cole’s claim.

Fells is believed to have been infected after receiving a seemingly routine cortisone shot from team doctors. Hospitalized for nearly two weeks now, Fells has seen his 104-fever go down in recent days -- a sign that his body may be reacting positively to the latest dose of antibiotics, according to Raanan.

The tight end was able to Skype with his teammates a day after their victory over the San Francisco 49ers. They dedicated their win to him and his recovery -- well wishes that were reciprocated on Monday on Fells' Instagram.
