An angry protester threw a pink dildo at the face of a high-profile New Zealand politician during a presser on Friday.

The sex toy bounced off Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce's shoulder and hit him on the nose and mouth as he spoke to journalists in Waitangi on New Zealand's North Island.

Online video footage shows the protester shouting, "that's for raping our sovereignty" as she is escorted away.

Joyce appears slightly shocked by the attack before he realizes exactly what hit him and breaks into a grin.

He later brushed off the assault. "Fair to say I don't think those sorts of things happen every day," Joyce told TVNZ. "We actually thought it was a little bit humorous at the end of it all. New experiences in politics every day; it's the privilege of serving."

Joyce was talking to journalists after ministers signed the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement in Auckland, New Zealand on Thursday.

The deal is being hailed as one of the biggest multinational trade deals ever.

It aims to strengthen economic ties and foster trade between the U.S., Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Brunei, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Chile and Peru.

But critics fear it could move jobs to developing countries and empower multinational corporations to challenge key domestic regulations.

The New Zealand Herald later identified Josie Butler, a nurse from Christchurch, as the dildo tosser.

At a previous rally against the TPP, Butler told reporters she was "worried about patient rights and how many people will essentially die if this goes through because the price of medication's going up."

Police reportedly detained her for several hours before releasing her without charge.
