Shocking Drone Footage Shows Aftermath Of Tianjin Explosions

The blasts killed at least 50 people.

Shocking drone footage published by a Chinese news outlet shows the complete devastation caused by two powerful explosions that rocked the port city of Tianjin, killing at least 50 people.

The dual blasts on Wednesday evening flattened an industrial area holding toxic chemicals and gas. At least 700 people were injured, and a dozen firefighters were counted among the dead. The video above was captured by a member of the public and originally published by the Chinese news site The Paper.

Reuters reports the blasts were so large they were seen by satellites in space and the U.S. Geological Survey registered them as seismic events from more than 100 miles away.

"I was sleeping when our windows and doors suddenly shook as we heard explosions outside. I first thought it was an earthquake," Guan Xiang, a local resident living 4 miles from the blast site, told Reuters by phone.
