Elizabeth Warren Raises Funds For Democratic Women

Elizabeth Warren Makes A Pitch For Democratic Women

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) made her case for electing Democratic women in November during a speech to donors on Monday.

“If you don’t have a seat at the table, you’re probably on the menu,” Warren told a crowd of approximately 300 donors at a fundraiser hosted by Emily’s List, a group that works to get pro-choice Democratic women elected.

Warren encouraged attendees to support Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Kay Hagan (D-N.C), both locked in close re-election battles that could determine which party controls the Senate in the next Congress. According to BuzzFeed, Warren didn't mention Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), who also is in a close re-election battle.

Warren, a former Harvard professor, also spoke about her own reluctance to run when she was first approached by Emily’s List three years ago, but said that she eventually grew to enjoy campaigning.

“The best part for me was meeting little girls,” Warren said. "And so every time I met a little girl, I would always drop down to my knees, down to their level, and I would always say, ‘My name is Elizabeth, and I’m running for the United States Senate, because that’s what girls do.’”
