ATLANTA -- D'Angelo and The Vanguard will headline Atlanta's inaugural AFROPUNK Fest this fall. The Grammy-award winning artist will perform aside other alternative urban artists like Flying Lotus, Santigold, and Tyler, The Creator, in Atlanta's Central Park on Saturday, Oct. 3rd and Sunday, Oct. 4th.
The Atlanta festival is offering an alternative ticket purchase method for youth through its AFROPUNK ARMY. AFROPUNK ARMY is the festival's service-learning initiative that creates awareness around local organizations, which impact the community in positive, meaningful ways. AFROPUNK ARMY volunteers will exchange volunteer service for a ticket to the festival. General ticket sales and more information on AFROPUNK ARMY will be available at afropunkfest.com/atlanta on Wednesday, July 8th.
AFROPUNK Fest comes to Atlanta after its 2005 debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. For ten years, the world-renowned festival has gathered music lovers in both New York City and Paris. Lianne La Havas, Patrice, Sandra Nkake, Willow and Jaden Smith, Keziah Jones, Lion Babe, Leon Bridges, and others performed at AFROPUNK's inaugural Paris festival in June. AFROPUNK Paris will return next year for its second edition to the Trianon in Paris on Saturday, June 4th and Sunday, June 5th.
Later this year, Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Kelis, and others will perform at the 2015 AFROPUNK Brooklyn Festival. The festival announced Ms. Lauryn Hill, Death Grips, Gary Clark, Jr., Vintage Trouble, Kelela, Jessie Boykins III, SZA and Candiria will join the lineup this week. Before the festival, AFROPUNK will premiere its first annual AFROPUNK FANCY DRESS BALL with Grace Jones, Cakes Da Killa & MikeQ at Commodore Barry Park on Friday, Aug. 21st. The Ball will raise funds for the AFROPUNK Global Initiative, the movement's alliance to progress the inclusion of people of color in media.
