Hawaii Senate Election Results: Brian Schatz Defeats Cam Cavasso

Brian Schatz Easily Wins Hawaii Senate Race

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) beat Republican Cam Cavasso in the state's U.S. Senate race Tuesday.

Schatz was appointed to the Senate in late 2012 by Governor Neil Abercrombie (D) to fill the opening left by the death of Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii). This was Cavasso's third time running for the Senate.

The senator won the Democratic nomination by defeating Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D-Hawaii) by a slim margin in an August primary.

President Barack Obama endorsed Schatz, reflecting divisions within the party over the seat.
