'How Do You Know' Synopsis, Guide, User Reviews

Seeing 'How Do You Know'? Submit Your Review

There's a glut of movies out this holiday season, many of them nominated for Golden Globes. For the most part, they are quite serious films, though, so if you're looking for a comedy -- and some romance -- the star studded cast of 'How Do You Know' may be just what you're itching for. Reese Witherspoon plays a just-cut softball star struggling with her goofball Major League pitcher boyfriend, Owen Wilson, when she meets downtrodden businessman Paul Rudd.

Synopsis (via IMDB):

Feeling a bit past her prime at 27, former athlete Lisa Jorgenson (Witherspoon) finds herself in the middle of a love triangle, as a corporate guy in crisis (Paul Rudd) competes with Lisa's current, baseball-playing beau (Owen Wilson).

Professional Reviews:

Then, gradually, you're reminded why Brooks gave us so much good television over the years, in addition to his better movies, chief among them "Broadcast News." He likes his characters, plain and simple. He makes them all smart, or at least screen worthy, in different ways...

It's a pleasure to watch Witherspoon relax on screen, as she does in 'How Do You Know,' and play material for all it's worth without straining for effect. Working with both Rudd and Wilson can't help but unwind a co-star for the better.

You know all those movie-blurb clichés that lard up the poster art for major Hollywood releases? "It's a laff riot!" and "Hysterical!" and "The laugh-out-loud comedy of the year!" Well, none of them apply to How Do You Know. It isn't hysterically anything. Heck, it isn't even a comedy.

It is, instead, a dour sort-of romantic drama with an A-list cast, a few comic moments and the disjointed sense of talented filmmakers flapping their arms in an effort to make it fly.
