You (Yes, You) Can Do A Handstand In Yoga Class

Going upside down isn't as hard as it looks.

If you think the closest you'll ever get to a handstand is watching the pros in yoga class, it's time for an attitude adjustment. No matter where you are in your practice, you'll be able to go upside down with some time and determination. As Udaya yoga instructor Vytas Baskauskas points out in the video above, if you can get into downward dog, you're already capable of doing an inversion. You're pretty much halfway there.

As Baskauskas demonstrates, getting into handstand is a process. Once you're comfortable in downward dog, you might try shortened-stance downward dog with the addition of a hop. The worst thing that could happen? You'll fall and try it again. In the words of Aaliyah, "If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again." Good luck!
