I am not writing this post to scare you, but actually I am as the pictures I posted of The Northridge Earthquake happened and nobody knew it was coming.

My brother and his family lived in Northridge at the time and they were thrown out of their beds and their house collapsed and eventually fell down the hillside.

Thank goodness they managed to get out of the house before it fell down the hillside, but they had no supplies as they went with the house.

Luckily their neighbor across the street were kind enough to take them in.

I know, people who live in California do not want to think or hear about it, but eventually we are going to have a BIG earthquake. We need to prepare our kids and families for the event, if and when it happens.

ITEMS NEEDED AT HOME:

  • 1. If you have and need medication everyday make sure you have an extra supply put away in a separate bag stored with the other supplies. Sealed in a waterproof bag or container.
  • 2. Make sure you have plenty of clean fresh bottled drinking water (1 gallon per day per person) Replace water every 6 months and count your pets as a person.
  • 3. Non perishable or canned food that can be eaten without heating as the gas might be out.
  • 4. A Portable cell phone charger that you have charged beforehand. There are many on the market as the electricity might not be working.
  • 5. Manual can opener
  • 6. Flashlights and Portable radio with extra batteries
  • 7. First Aid Kit and manual
  • 8. Bag of extra clothing, rain gear and walking shoes for each person.
  • 9. Blankets for each person
  • 10. List of family physicians and style and serial number of pacemaker or any other medical devices used.
  • 11. Copy of Passports, birth certificates, drivers licences and health insurance cards stored in a waterproof plastic bag.
  • 12. Extra pair of eye glasses.
  • 13. Extra set of house and Car Keys
  • 14. Toilet Paper and feminine hygiene items
  • 15. Fire extinguisher
  • 16. Pet food, leash
  • 17. Cash and small change
  • 18. Water purification kit or unscented liquid bleach(8 drops per gallon when water is first stored)
  • 19. Any special food supplies and diapers for babies, elderly or disabled
  • 20. Paper cups and plates and plastic knives, spoons and forks
  • 21. Knife or razor blades
  • 22. Candles and Light sticks
  • 23. Matches in waterproof container
  • 24. Work gloves and broom
  • 25. Hammer and nails
  • 26. Coil of rope and wire
  • 27. Ax, Crowbar and Shovel
  • 28. Small tool kit
  • 29. Cheesecloth to strain water
  • 30. Large and small plastic bags and garbage bags
  • 31. 2 tarps 8 feet x 10 feet
  • 32. Local street map and compass
  • 33. Paper, pens and stamps
  • 34. Entertainment pack of family photos, notebooks, reading material and games.
  • 35. A generator in case the electricity goes out.

I know you are all reading this list and saying. I can do it next week or next month but it could be too late by then. Get it done today.

This list is just to have at home.

Wow!!! I have to admit I do not have all this stuff right now but I will be going out tomorrow and making sure I have all this stuff available. The problem with earthquakes you do not know when they are going to hit. So be prepared.
