Jared Allen Announces Retirement Like He's In A Classic Western Film

The defensive end played his final season for the Carolina Panthers.

After 12 seasons in the league, defensive end Jared Allen announced his retirement Thursday morning via Twitter.

While on a horse and wearing a cowboy hat, Allen thanked everyone for the support during his time in the NFL and then rode off toward the horizon like John Wayne.

"This was the part where I was gonna ride off into the sunset, but seeing how there's no sunset, I'm just gonna ride off," he said before his horse galloped away into an open field.

Joining the NFL in 2004, the 33-year-old played with four teams during his tenure. He accumulated 136 sacks -- tied for ninth all-time -- and 641 tackles during his career.

In his final season, Allen played in 12 games for the Carolina Panthers and had two sacks and 27 tackles.
