Jennifer Hudson Brings Down The House With Prince Tribute At BET Awards

The Purple One would be proud.

Jennifer Hudson brought down the house at the BET Awards with her tribute to Prince.

The "American Idol" alum performed a stunning and powerful rendition of "Purple Rain" at the award show on Sunday night. Dressed in a hooded white blazer dress, inspired by Prince's white hood at the 2005 People's Choice Awards, JHud shut. It. Down.

From the moment she sang the song's first lines, the audience was there for her, singing along throughout the emotional performance. She didn't miss a single beat and sang her heart out until she was offstage. It really was the performance of a lifetime. (You can watch the whole thing above.)

Naturally, the Twitterverse loved it.

Hudson's performance was just one of many tributes to the late music icon, who died earlier this year at the age of 57. Before "The Color Purple" star walked onstage, Tori Kelly and Stevie Wonder sang "Take Me With U." Other performances included a medley of hits sung by Janelle Monae (who bared her butt in honor of the late icon), a stirring cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Maxwell and a lovely rendition of "The Beautiful Ones" by Erykah Badu, The Roots and singer Bilal.

We think it's safe to say Prince would have been proud and honored after the night's tributes.
