Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was reportedly arrested on Oct. 31 on domestic abuse charges.
Police arrested the four-time All-Star at the Four Seasons Resort Maui, The Maui News reported, after he allegedly assaulted his wife Katherine Ramirez.
According to Hawaii News Now, Ramirez told police that he grabbed her off the bed, took her by the throat and shoved her into the balcony's sliding glass door during an argument.
Hotel security contacted the authorities, and Reyes was taken into custody for alleged abuse of a family or household member.
Ramirez told police she suffered injuries to her neck, thigh and wrist, and was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment, per Hawaii News Now.
The National League batting champion in 2011, Reyes previously played for the New York Mets, Miami Marlins and the Toronto Blue Jays. He was traded to the Rockies in July.
Reyes could become the first player subject to Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy, The Denver Post reported. The policy, which was instituted following a series of high-profile domestic violences cases involving NFL players, empowers the MLB commissioner to discipline players for acts of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
