On Sunday, Justin Bieber walked offstage during his concert in Manchester, England, because his fans wouldn’t stop doing what fans do at concerts ― screaming. The singer even dropped his mic before storming off.
According to the BBC, before leaving the stage, Bieber said, “I appreciate all the support. I appreciate love. I appreciate the kind things. But the screaming in these breaks has got to stop. Please and thank you.”
The 22-year-old Canadian singer told the crowd he didn’t think the screaming was “necessary when I’m trying to say something” in between songs and, when they didn’t quiet down, he just left. When he eventually returned to the stage, he and tried to reason with his Beliebers, saying, “I feel like I wanna connect with you.”
“The point of the ‘no-screaming’ thing is that, when I’m looking at you in the eyes, you know that we’re actually having a moment and having a connection,” he added, reportedly telling the fans he wasn’t going to talk between songs for the remainder of the show.
Bieber’s relationship with his over-the-top fans is nothing short of complicated. (See: Fans telling Sofia Richie to kill herself when it appeared she and the singer were dating.) Recently, he seems to have grown especially tired of their antics.
At a concert in Birmingham last week, the pop star told the crowd to “take a chill pill” after saying their screaming was “obnoxious.” He has also told fans to stop throwing things on stage “because I probably don’t want that shit.”
In 2015, Bieber stormed offstage during a performance in Oslo, Norway, and prior to that, he walked out of an interview with a Spanish radio station.
Even if the Biebs changes his ways, it may be too late now to say “sorry.”
