Kate Mara: It's 'Quite An Honor' To Play A Female Superhero

As a female scientist super hero, Sue Storm is a rare figure in the action movie landscape.

It's no secret that female superheroes are few and far between. That's why actress Kate Mara fully appreciates her role as Sue Storm, the kick-ass heroine in Marvel's upcoming "Fantastic Four" reboot.

When Mara and her co-stars stopped by HuffPost Live on Tuesday, she addressed the dearth of opportunities for women in superhero films and in Hollywood on a larger scale.

"There obviously are a limited amount of female superheroes. That said … the fact that I'm the only female in the film is not unique," Mara told host Marc Lamont Hill. "In most movies there are much fewer roles for females than there are for the men. That's just, I think, an overall problem for women in film. So I'm hoping that that continues to change for the better."

Although she said it can be "hard to really wrap your head around" becoming a role model for girls who view the film, she fully comprehends the significance of her casting.

"I am very much aware that there are such a limited amount of female superheroes, so it is quite an honor to be able to play one of them," Mara said.
