In perhaps the strangest headline of the week, news aggregator The Drudge Report claimed that Leonardo DiCaprio's new film "The Revenant" features a scene in which the actor's character is raped by a bear. Yes, you read that correctly.
The report stated the film includes “a shocking scene of a wild bear raping Leo DiCaprio” where, “The bear flips Leo over and thrusts and thrusts during the explicit mauling ...'He is raped -- twice!'”
Well, someone at The Drudge Report must have quite the imagination because Fox is denying that such a scene exists.
"As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass [DiCaprio's character] because she feels he might be threatening her cubs,” a spokesperson for the studio told Entertainment Weekly exclusively. “There is clearly no rape scene with a bear.”
DiCaprio is expected to be a front-runner in 2016's Oscar race for his role as the revenge-stricken frontiersman, Glass. The actor, who famously stayed in character after cutting his hand on the set of "Django Unchained," also displayed a similar dedication during the filming of the Alejandro González Iñárritu film.
Describing a few of the scenes as "some of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do," DiCaprio told Yahoo! Movies that, "Whether it’s going in and out of frozen rivers, or sleeping in animal carcasses, or what I ate on set ... [I was] enduring freezing cold and possible hypothermia constantly."
It seems like Leo had enough to deal with during shooting, but when it comes to Hollywood films these days, any press -- even reports of "bear rape" -- is good press.
