The Cold-Weather Gear Every Guy Needs To Survive Winter

Because you don't have to look dead when it's cold outside.

There's nothing you can do -- it's gonna get cold outside, but you don't have to look like Joe Pesci in "Home Alone."

We've pulled together our favorite winter basics to start your season right, because even though it's only fall, no is the time to shop for them. We've curated a set of the best items every guy should have before the first snowflake falls. You might have to update a few of your winter wear staples, but with the right gear, you can still look hot even amidst the worst winter weather advisory.

No scarf? You can pop the collar on J. Crew's Wallace and Barnes Sherpa Collar Contrast Wool Bomber Jacket and you won't look like an Ivy League dweeb ($368).
Acne's Micha Sweater

If there's one thing to splurge on, make it the oversized Micha sweater by Acne -- it's made of boiled wool and cut to a relaxed fit, so you'll be comfortably warm -- plus, side zippers are in ($380).
J. Crew Sussex Quilted Jacket

It's sharp enough to wear alone and slim enough to line your coat for much-needed added warmth. Either way, the Sussex Quilted Jacket from J. Crew is stuffed with Primaloft filling, which means it's machine washable too ($198).
Sunglasses: Capital Eyewear
Capital Eyewear
Built by hand to look like the frames Gregory Peck wore in "To Kill A Mockingbird," the clear Morgan frames from San Francisco-based Capital Eyewear will have you looking as crisp as the snow but keep you from going blind from its glare ($145).
Dents Shetland Gloves

We love Dents gloves -- the quality and craftsmanship are top shelf, and their style range will fit everyone from fancy dandies who wear driving gloves to rugged guys who chop wood. Their Shetland gloves, made with nubuck leather with a knitted cuff, are the perfect balance. Grab a pair of their knitted Lanber shooting gloves for all your texting/emailing/Snapchatting needs ($76; $28).
Heattech by Uniqlo

Anything with Heattech -- we can't recommend it enough. Not only is it thin enough to layer with, but clothes with Uniqlo's Heattech technology are warmed by your body's moisture, which means you'll stay warm the whole time you're wearing it. Uniqlo recently expanded its line of Heattech options to include everything layered on these two guys (minus the coats) to include sweaters, fleece and scarves, in addition to its line of long underwear and undershirts (prices vary).
ASOS Wool Pants

Dressed up or down, wool pants will keep you warm. We like this cut from ASOS: loose fit around the thigh and knee, but tapered below so it hits the ankle just right. Dress it down with some sneakers or up with a pair of those Timberland boots we mentioned above ($81).

Get these before the first slush pile floods your street -- the Stormbuck Waterproof Duck Boots' seam-sealed leather uppers and rubber toe keep your feet dry through winter's worst, and anybody who's worn Timberland boots knows the leather lined soles and "anti-fatigue technology" (designed for people who spend a lot of time on their feet) can't be beat ($160).
