President Barack Obama offered congratulations to the top American finishers at this year's Boston Marathon, praising the athletes for "making America proud" one year after a bombing at the finish line killed three and injured hundreds.

Tweeting from the White House account, where the president signs off on messages he writes himself with "-bo," Obama praised the athletes on their performance:

Meb Keflezighi is the first American to win the race since 1983, finishing the 26.2 mile race in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 37 seconds. Shalane Flanagan finished seventh among women, crossing the finish line after 2 hours, 22 minutes and one second.
