The Oscars are almost upon us and we are bursting with excitement. This year the nominees are diverse in age and size -- hurray! -- which we are hoping means we will see some unexpected styles on the red carpet. Our fingers are crossed that the nominees and their stylists will take some chances; we are wishing for bright gowns (yellow! pink!), pantsuits (look to Bianca Jagger for inspiration!) and interesting shapes (no more mermaid gowns, please).

New York and London Fashion Weeks just came to a close and there are plenty of options to choose from. Erdem, Christopher Kane and Peter Pilotto had us dreaming of digital prints and deep purples, while Mary Katranzou's couture-like dresses are begging for a red carpet moment. New York designers like Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu would be an unexpected delight at the Academy Awards, while old favorites like Marchesa, Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera showed the sophisticated finery and beautiful ballgowns that have us gushing season after season. We are keeping our fingers crossed for oohs and aahs this coming Sunday, rather than the "meh" moments we've had so far this awards season. Come on ladies!
