American Horror Story” might be around for a long, long time.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Monday, series co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed as much when he said that FX president John Landgraf “has always” compared the show’s format to “The Twilight Zone” ― a show that ran for nine seasons, although not consecutively. Murphy added that he has “always agreed” with that idea.

Details about the upcoming Season 6 have been kept tightly wrapped, but the co-creator is already looking ahead to Seasons 7 and 8 ― although he noted that additional seasons have not yet been formally ordered. Asked when fans can expect to see how the seasons are linked though their separate themes, Murphy offered a tantalizing response.

“You’ll see it this season, and then you’ll really see it after this season. We lay a lot of pipe, and you’ll see it explode in Seasons 7 and 8,” he told THR. The show is known for plot and character connections between seasons, but it stands to reason that the longer it stays on the air, the more difficult and unwieldily a web Murphy will weave.

But take heart: Whatever happens, Murphy assures fans he “absolutely” has a plan for the show.

So long as it doesn’t involve drill bits.
