Sean Spicer's Inauguration Whopper Makes Him Latest Hot Meme

The most astounding tall tales ever. Period.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer addressed members of the media on Saturday and presented a series of falsehoods, mostly pertaining to Friday’s inauguration of President Donald Trump.

Twitter users and meme makers weren’t having it. In particular, they grasped onto a false claim Spicer made about attendance at the event: “This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period, both in person and around the globe.” Crowd estimates, television ratings and aerial photos of the National Mall taken Friday indicate that is not true.

So sarcastic meme creators used the hashtags #SeanSpicerSays, #SeanSpicerFacts and #SpicerFacts to wonder what else the press secretary might lie about.

In meme-land, Trump also bench-presses 450 pounds, was the first man to walk on the moon and time-traveled to kill Hitler with his bare hands (did we mention the president’s hands are HUGE?).

Some people just took jabs at Spicer’s apparent inability to understand numbers and crowd estimates.

And lots of people zeroed in on Spicer’s commitment to spin ― particularly his emphatic use of the word “period.”

Clarification: A paraphrase of Spicer’s remarks has been amended to reflect that he was comparing the relative audiences for U.S. inaugurations.
