Stephen King will not assume his normal spot in the Fenway Park stands this weekend for Derek Jeter's last game in Major League Baseball. The horror author icon and fervent Red Sox fan, however, says the stadium ought to cheer the man who has miffed many Sox fans over the years.
"I would love to be there. Jeter has been sort of a bugaboo for Red Sox fans for years and years and years. He is the one guy you don't want to see come up in a clutch situation. In my sleep, I can see the Jeter stance with the hand out while he gets ready and digs in," King told host Josh Zepps. "Having said that, he's a terrific player, he's an iconic player, and for years, when he steps to the plate at fenway Park, he has been booed. And that's the correct response for the hometown team. But on Sunday ... in Fenway Park, they're going to stand and cheer every time he comes to the plate. I think the place will be blue with shirts that say Jeter. That's sportsmanship at its absolute best."
The Yankees will not make the playoffs this season, thus Sunday will be the last game of Jeter's 20-year career.
