Women are forced to marry Holy Quran or Haq Bakhshish to avoid their share in property and to keep the property in the bloodline is a known tradition in interior SIndh, Pakistan.

I have been brought up in Pakistan and have been witnessed to various ugly truths that had been faced by the common women of conservative countries like Pakistan.

When I was a kid, in my neighbor there was a maid of about 30 years of age. Her name was Fareeda but everyone used to call her Sath bharayi because she was a sister of seven brothers. But her owner brought her from their village to take care of their children.

Once we had a chance to speak with her to uncover the reasons of her sadness. According to her my neighbor was a close relative to the maid but since she is Haq Bakhshish or married to Holy Quran therefore her parents cannot afford her expenditures anymore and they sold her to them.

By that time we were not familiar with the term Haq Bakhshish however, when we asked her about the Haq Bakhshish, she explained,

Haq Bakhshish means to release her rights to wed from her parents, to sacrifice all her worldly desires and to marry with Quran in order to avoid her property share with outside the family.

In interior Sindh, when a woman does not get any right proposal from her relatives and to protect the bloodline, her parents or family takes all her property and marry her with the Quran and left her to spend rest of her life in a one isolated room where no one can see her except her close relatives although this practice has nothing to do with Islam.

We see, when the world is talking about women empowerment, there are still some women, who are still living a life of slavery in the name of culture or tradition. In Pakistan Haq Bakhshish and Honor Killing are most common issues specially in the villages. Despite the fact people are much literate than before but these practices are still the part of their culture and tradition and no such effective action has been taken against these crimes because most of the law makers belongs to these families or they are powerful enough. They are literate but not ready to provide some very basic rights to their women.
