Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman and wife Erin Hurley are divorcing, The Hollywood Reporter reported Wednesday.
The split comes as a movie portraying their relationship, “Stronger,” with Jake Gyllenhaal and Tatiana Maslany as the couple, heads toward an upcoming release.
“Jeff and Erin have decided that it is best to move forward as friends,” a spokesperson said in a statement to media outlets. “Though their relationship has changed, their admiration, love and mutual respect for each other will never waver. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their daughter, Nora, and ask for privacy.”
The movie will not be changed, the trade publication noted, citing unnamed sources.
Bauman lost both legs in the April 15, 2013, attack while waiting at the finish line for Hurley to complete the 26.2-mile race. A photo of him being whisked away in a wheelchair became one of the iconic images of the terror assault.
Hurley delivered their daughter in July 2014 and they got married that November, the Boston Globe reported.
Bauman, who helped investigators identify one of the suspects, wrote the book Stronger about coming back from his ordeal. It was adapted into the movie.
