Venus Williams and Serena Williams are paying homage to their late sister, Yetunde Price, who was killed in a 2003 drive-by shooting, with the opening of The Yetunde Price Resource Center.

The center, which will serve their hometown of Compton, California, will provide customized assistance and relief to families of violence.

“The resource center will serve as vital support to existing nonprofits and organizations that provide critical services to our community,” Compton Mayor Aja Brown told The Root. “I understand firsthand the power of partnership, and I am confident that the resource center will play a major role in breaking down silos in our community by facilitating key partnerships to increase asset leveraging and expanding the impact of services.”

While the center doesn’t yet have an opening date, the Williams sisters will return home on Nov. 12 as honorees of the annual Healthy Compton Community Festival. In a joint statement to The Compton Herald, Venus and Serena expressed their gratitude for being honored at the Compton event.

“We are so excited to return to Compton for Mayor Aja Brown’s Healthy Compton Community Festival,” the said. “Compton will always be our home and we can’t wait to spend the day with the community at this inspiring event.”
