Victor Cruz: NFL Players Need Guaranteed Contracts

He's the latest player to call for better contracts as injuries and player safety get more attention.

Seemingly everyone in football got hurt on Sunday, but Victor Cruz wasn’t one of them -- he’s been out all season with a calf injury. Last week, the New York Giants wide receiver told The Huffington Post that NFL players "should at least have guaranteed contracts" like athletes in other pro sports.

"I think because of the violence and the short time span of this game, you want to be secure in the things you do financially," Cruz said.

On this week’s "The Second Half" podcast, HuffPost sports reporter Travis Waldron and NFL veteran Donté Stallworth discuss NFL players' increasing calls for contract guarantees, and whether they should battle over the issue in future labor negotiations.

Plus: Andy Dalton continues his impression of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, and the Bengals just might be for real; Deflategate is back, and it's another major labor issue for NFL players; and the Giants and New Orleans Saints played one of the highest-scoring games in NFL history.

This podcast was produced, edited and engineered by Adriana Usero and Peter James Callahan, with assistance from Christine Conetta.
