Watch A Newscaster Tell Viewers To 'Check Your Panties'

It was the teleprompter's fault, people.

This would have been a good time to go off-script.

“Check your panties,” newscaster Eric Philips of NBC12 in Richmond, Virginia, told viewers on Wednesday. It came out just like that, which might be considered weird because Philips was introducing a story about a rice- and slow-cooker recall.

He really meant pantries, of course, and quickly realized the error as he and colleagues had a good chuckle about it.

Turns out it wasn’t a Freudian slip. It was the slip of a teleprompter missing a letter. Co-anchor Karla Redditte, who tried to suppress her laughter as she apologized on-air for not being able to warn him of the mistake, tweeted the evidence.

The blooper made international news and became a meme, naturally.

Now Philips is more focused than ever.
