The Pelosi Smear: "Stupid--But Kind of Entertaining"

The freedom with which reporters and pundits who covered the Pelosi plane story for ABC, CNN, MSNBC, the Associated Press, and the Los Angeles Times simply made stuff up has to concern anybody who is interested in journalism. The Pelosi brouhaha simply represented the latest, most glaring example of the at-times nonexistent standards by which Beltway newsrooms now function. There was nothing confusing about the facts of the story. The truth is the press propagated the phony Pelosi plane controversy because the mainstream press wanted to. They liked the story becuase, as Chris Wallace at Fox News noted, it was "stupid--but kind of entertaining."
