Ode to '07

What a year it has been, 2007

Britney finally divorced Kevin,

Anna Nicole went to heaven

And Rudy continued to talk 9/11.

Socialite Paris went to jail,

Pal Nicole spent 10 grand on bail,

Alas, Sanjaya's rise was a fairy (and pony) tail,

Yet over the Journal, Murdoch prevailed.

Mark Cuban finally learned to dance,

Sarkozy ended his French romance.

Larry Craig claimed that he had a wide stance,

After inviting a cop to the party in his pants.

Petraeus claimed, "We are winning the war"

And Imus called for racism, no more.

The Nobel Peace Prize went to Al Gore,

And property investors became suddenly poor.

OJ was busted for taking back his stuff,

Even Michael Vick's dogs had it rough,

Barry Bonds was questioned for being too buff,

Sports fans, this year, had it tough.

Harry Potter's final fate was creatively penned,

But Eliot Spitzer could not keep up his trend.

The Minneapolis Bridge did more than just bend,

Sadly, Virginia Tech came to a horrible end.

Tragedy struck with the California fire,

Months before writers protested in choir.

In politics even Oprah tried to inspire,

And for all, the iPhone was the IT thing to acquire.

Finally, as the year came to a close,

Benazir Bhutto was killed by her foes,

Delivering to the world a few hard blows.

Leaving us to wonder, in 2008, who knows?

As an addendum, I'd love to hear this prose set to music. Preferably a can-can.

After having read more than my share of the "End of 2007" lists and the "Summary of 2007" lists and the "This Is What You Missed While You Lay Comatose In a Hospital in 2007" lists, this has to rank among my favorite.

No, really.
