McCain's New Strategy Incites Violent, Racist Reaction

Are you proud, John McCain? This is your campaign. In your quest for power, you threw out your morals, your principle, your past disdain for low-ball gutter smears. And now we know the reaction it has incited.

Are you proud?

In New Mexico, you asked the crowd, "Who is the real Barack Obama?"

"A terrorist!" a voice in the crowd shot back, clearly getting the message from this weekend, when your running mate falsely said that Barack Obama had "Palled around" with a "terrorist" and "doesn't see America" the same way nice white Americans do.

Are you proud?

Your running mate, twice yesterday, got the reaction that can only be expected when you do everything you can do to peddle lies in an attempt to convince so-called "low information voters" that Barack Obama somehow doesn't fit in with the rest of us, and maybe even condones bombing American institutions.

Palin also told those gathered that Obama doesn't like American soldiers. "He said that our troops in Afghanistan are just, quote, 'air-raiding villages and killing civilians,' " she said, drawing boos from a crowd that had not been told Obama was actually appealing for more troops in Afghanistan.

Hitting again and again on Bill Ayers and his flimsy connection to Barack Obama, a member of the audience yelled back, "KILL HIM!"

Are you proud? Are you proud of this, Senator McCain? Because that's not all. Earlier, in Clearwater, in the middle of her screed against the "different" Obama, and the media who dared ask her a question...

At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

"Sit down, boy." To an African American man. Are you proud, Senator McCain? No, you cannot control what everyone says, but you sure as hell can set the tone for what they believe is acceptable to say - indeed, what they think you're looking for them to say. And, you've done that. In just three days of completely false character attacks, you've sent the signal to your supporters that racist, violent hatred against Barack Obama is OK, because "he's not one of us, anyway."

Are you proud? Thank God that dreaded "mainstream media" that so harassed your running mate with follow-up questions, and is "in the tank" for Obama is so gutless that not one has even mentioned this on TV, thus protecting you and your campaign from having to comment on the hatred on which you're turning up the heat.

Thank God not one television reporter, and only one print reporter dares mention any of this, because then you might have to look at the cameras and tell us the greatest lie you've ever told during this campaign... Yes, I'm proud of this.

Are you proud, John McCain? This is your campaign. In your quest for power, you threw out your morals, your principle, your past disdain for low-ball gutter smears. And now we know the reaction it ...

We desperately need a grassroots effort to immediately stop the McCain/Palin campaign from inciting crowds with fear and hatred to the point where audience members are shouting threats against Senator Obama. It is TIME for all of us to flood the phone lines and emails of our Senators, Representatives and the GOP to have the McCain campaign stop these frightening and intolerable tactics. Immediately!

Where is the condemnation of those who shout these radical, racial and violent comments? Where is the McCain campaign in this condemnation? Where is the Republican party? No chastising, no denouncing, no censuring. No nothing. By not responding, both McCain and Palin are condoning these actions. This is outrageous and offensive.

This deplorable behavior has to stop. NOW!! The Republican Party should be disgraced. This behavior reflects poorly on the party and on America as well. This conduct not only offends Senator Obama and his supporters but Americans in general. Where is common decency?

Please contact your congressmen today. This has to be done immediately. It is a frightening precedent.

Senator McCain needs to put "Country First" and request/demand Sarah Palin's resignation as his running mate. And, George W. Bush (yes, our unpopular President) needs to go out on a high note and demand that the Secret Service detain all Sarah Palin supporters spouting off threats against US Senator and Presidentail candidate Barack Obama. Then, those Palin supporters that have threatened the llife of Barack Obama need to be charged and tried for the serious crimes they have committed against the Presidential hopeful. If McCain is not going to stop this "road to racist violence" that Sarah Palin has taken this country down then George W. Bush needs to stand up and do something. An adult in the Republican party needs to stand up and truly "Put Country First!"

Is anyone starting an online petition??? this is outrageous and needs to be addressed. palin needs to explain why she hasn't remarked about this blatant racism and open threats.

We all need to call the Secret Service and ask them if they are planning on taking these threats seriously. Did anyone ever hear of incitement to riot? Does free speech protect those who advocate violence?

Will McCain and Palin be asked about this? Will they show any personal responsibility here or just pretend that this didn't happen and expect everyone to ignore it?

right on.

I think this is an area where we need Joe Biden out on the stump.

I think Biden could possibly address this issue in a low-key, but effective manner.

I e-mailed my Senator, e-mailed the McCain/Palin website. I called McCain's Campaign Headquarters number (703-418-2008) and left a voicemail expressing my disappointment in him and his running mate--in an intelligent articulate manner, that is. I'm not a Republican for chrissake.

This is probably the sanest response I have read all day. We need to speak up against this type of behavior. Although this content is all over the Internet, it would be appropriate that this hits mainstream media so that more Americans can voice their disapproval and disappointment that some people have chosen to regress. This is the 21st century and to express hatred on this level, or any other level is inappropriate, but especially in this particular case is backward thinking--it is no different from tribalism and is not a family value. There are places in the world where this type of thinking is soooo looked down upon by Americans--Rwanda and Dafur to name two recent places where murder was committed against groups of peole because of hatred. Palin speaks about Jews being friends to America, but is she not sensitive to the kind of -hatred against them and others who have lost their lives. To suggest that in the most affluent nation in the world--there are two possible future leaders McCain and Palin who would lead us towards past primitive thinking is almost unheard of in this day and age. When does ignorance become so empowered that we keep it in the closet? No people should be abused in this way!

I e-mailed my state senators, Clinton and Schumer, urging both to please get the ball rolling on some form of action. Tomorrow I will call directly as well.

On network television this morning, Joe Biden cited Palin as creating an irresponsibly volatile environment with her hateful speeches.

I hope he does not let up on this very, very serious situation.

This is disgusting and cannot be tolerated. I will be contacting my local senator and newspaper about this. It must be reported.

The hate mongering is unacceptable. Call your senators and the media and complain about the incidents. We can change things by letting them know that this is out of line. Pressure works.

What if McCain is your senator?

For those of us that saw through Palin when she stepped on the National Public Stage, it is getting more difficult to listen to her say anything at all.

Her being able to tolerate us non-followers wont be enough. She is making active protesters more passionate for their cause and creating protesters out of nonactivist citizens. I do believe that before she came along there was more tolerance for both sides. Average Americans understood the diversity of our great country. It was only the extreme “lefts” and “rights” that had a hard time being tolerant, thanks to Palin stirring up her brew she has forced fear-based emotions to run over.

She is a divider.

http://www.blueoregon.com/2008/10/sarah-palin-res.html

She spews out words like chards of glass and doesn’t seem to realize that half the country doesn’t agree with her on basic fundamentals example: civil rights, interpretation of the constitution. Not to mention that we are smart enough to know lies when we hear them. There are many of us that are average Americans that have been reading and learning current events not just for our own country but also for the world. Compared to Gov. Palin most of the Incredible Curious Minds of the American people are more knowledgeable of foreign policy, the economy, civil rights, and our judicial system than she is.

Alaska may not want her either.

She's an attack dog, the mouth piece for the hateful spew McCain can't risk shouting himself. She's turned this election into a joke. She and McCain represent the worst aspects of American politics.

And Alaska shouldn't take her back. She's ruined that state's credibility in mere weeks.

this is beyond frightening and disturbing. it's like a nightmare scenario and it makes me fear for obama's safety.

They are just so desperate. It reminds me of Hilary saying twice that RFK was assasinated in June. That did not work and this stuff will not work either. It just solidifies his support. With the economy melting down, this is all they have to talk about? BTW, Ayres was never convicted of anything!!! Keating went to jail. While Keating took the life savings of 20,000 elderly people, Ayres works to improve schools for low income students and to alleviate poverty. He donated $200 to Obama's state senate race. That is it. Period. Keating gave McCain over $100,000 in campaign contributions, as well as free vacations in the Bahamas, and other "gifts." Cindy McCain's family had heavily invested in this felon's business deals. McCain was not exonerated, he was publicly rebuked for "poor judgement." It is important during this ugly time, to keep getting the true facts out. It is the media's responsibility to do this and they are not. Except for KO and Rachel, they are sitting on the sidelines, "watching."

The only reason McCain got away with just a 'public rebuke' from the ethics committee was because he was a Representative and the Senate Ethics Committee did not feel they had the legislative ability to try to remove him from office. McCain was the one who figured out that he had to get out in front of this story, when it broke, by sucking up to the news media. He turned over the names of his Congressional fellow co-conspirators to the media. When they didn't respond quickly enough to take some of the heat off of McCain, he called them back and asked why they were sitting on the names he had given them. See, he was a 'snake' even back then.

The main story of this scenario is that 21000 elderly people LOST their entire RETIREMENT SAVINGS!!
McCain was largely responsible for that, even more so than his other 4 co-conspirators. HE, ALONE took vacations at Keating's expense, and got the most in campaign contributions and family investments.

Did he care 21000 people lost their savings? NO! He continued to vote to deregulate the banking industry for years afterward. McCain is largely responsible for this financial meltdown!

Comparing Clinton to Bush during the primaries was false and disgusting. Comparing her to McCain now is just as false and just as disgusting. She is a leader in the Democratic Party, a valuable senator in the Congress and we are lucky to have her with us.

As for the negative campaigning against Obama, it's too late. With the financial crisis on the front burner and the war on the back burner, McCain has nowhere to go but negative and negative won't save him. In fact, showing himself to be a mean old man only helps Obama.

So go negative, McCain/Palin. Just keep slinging this trash while Obama continues to look presidential and remains calm under pressure.

we knew Obama would not get to the White House without the race card being thrown at him. There are many whites who like Obama and just as many who despise him. McCain has really ruined his image, as well as Palin..They are desperate and putting their political careers on the line in order to win. It's ugly out there and I hope Obama keeps his cool as he's done throughout his campaign. Hillary tried the kitchen sink strategy and it didn't work and it's not going to work this time. GO OBAMA!
01:35 PM on 10/07/2008
There are not many Black people who like McCain though....
04:37 PM on 10/07/2008
I don't think Palin ever had an image to protect. Her racism is widely known in Alaska. It's apparently common with Alaskan whites. Ironic considering she's married to a Native.
