Did they even do anything CLOSE to vetting Sarah Palin?
The other day, I wrote about how Sarah Palin was nothing more than a two-bit hack, given the investigation into her abuse of power as Governor, firing the Public Safety Commissioner when he wouldn't fire her ex-brother-in-law, lied about pressuring the guy to do so, and then showed keen judgment by replacing him with someone who had to resign in two weeks because of sexual harassment problems.
Seems that Palin honed this skill back as Mayor of Wasilla, where she was nearly recalled, for firing the Police Chief and Library Director for not supporting her in her 1996 race for Mayor.
Yes, that's right. Hack n' Sack Sarah didn't even try to hide it. She didn't say the Police Chief and Library Director were doing a bad job. No, she fired them for "not fully supporting her efforts to govern" (i.e., not endorsing her for Mayor).
Seriously, though, we're coming off eight years of cronyism and inept leadership in the White House, which led to everything from Heck Of a Job Brownie to the US Attorney Firing Scandal. Sarah Palin's emerging record as Mayor of Wasilla and as Governor are almost a complete mirror of that (though closer to the Mayberry scale than leader of the free world).
But it is a glimpse into the type of "leader" she is. An inept hack, in the George W. Bush mold, who was so brazen with the little power she was given that she faced citizens trying to remove her from office. Did John McCain even ask her about this, the one time he talked to her on the phone before picking her?
If John McCain wanted a woman on the ticket, there were plenty of conservative women to choose from, who have a respectable record as public officials, and who would arguably be ready to be Commander in Chief. That he chose Sarah Palin, who is nothing short of an embarrassment, speaks volumes about the kind of judgment McCain will show as President. For if he's willing to put a nearly-recalled, under-investigation inept hack one heartbeat away from the Presidency, what kind of judgment will he show when choosing Judges and Justices, Secretaries of top departments, and administrators of lead agencies?
This isn't putting Country First. It's putting Political PR first (and not even good PR at that). Sarah Palin as a VP nominee is an affront to the intelligence of every American, and a freakin' embarrassment.
Well done, John McCain. You've shown possibly even worse judgment than George W. Bush, which until now was almost an impossibly high bar to meet.

Either she was or she wasn't, "Almost recalled" is not recalled. It's like almost pregnant.
...his mother is white
Oh, by the way, Obama is not black he is bi-racial.
One it does matter, bc it shows the woman could not handle a town of 9,000 people without getting into trouble. I dont want that kind of ignorance in the white house, yet again.
Two who cares what Obamas race is. He is black, and he is white. One can be both. Do you think he did not go through the same stuff other black children go through everyday? Actually I think being biracial would be harder than just being one. People from both races will never accept you. You arent white enough, but you arent black enough either.
The one thing that does matter is Obama is a leader, a good one, a strong, a competent one.
And McCain chose a running mate without fully vetting them This woman has more skeleton in her closet than skeletons in a graveyard.
Is that the best you can do? Really? Does this actually make sense to you?
WOW!
I agree; this is not a good attack and the link provides a completely incomplete picture of what happened, how long it lasted, whether it reflected deep problems with her tenure as mayor.
The only actual evidence we have of the "almost recall" is that 60 people showed up one day talking about recalling her and even they were reported to be "backing off" in that same article.
accept almost all bi-racial people id themselves as black and if I remember correctly there was a US law that said if you had pretty one drop of slave/black blood you were to be id'ed as that and that law has stuck for generation s....
yep, I looked it up it's called the One Drop Rule.
So she did what she did and didn't lie about it. Thats cause for a recall in democratic politics. Better to lie, abort and cheat on your spouse.
"not fully supporting her efforts to govern"
Sounds more like some local leaders with Napoleon complexes to me.
You see it all the time in bureaucracies. These little dictators carve out their little kingdoms, and then act like they're beholden to no one. If someone comes along and demands that they submit to the normal chain of command so that the government can run effectively, they rail against the "upstart" and cite their "experience". They're like government apostates, and the only way to deal with them is to either submit to their arrogance, replace them, or punish them until they come around.
I'm willing to give SP the benefit of the doubt on this one. Just because these lower level bureaucrats may have been well known or well liked in the city doesn't mean they are acting in the city's best interests in their official capacity.
Sarah Palin's 'experience' is at a small town level. She catapulted into the Governor's mansion basically because the Republican party here in Alaska had a meltdown--scores of our Republican legislator are under indictment, investigation or in prison. She looks good next to that, but as leader of the free world, no way. Read more at www.alaska nperspecti ve.com.
"An inept hack, in the George W. Bush mold". Great phrase.
McCain is as impulsive and unpredictable as he is nasty.
s...
He's an erratic gambler and I for one, don't want him gambling with my life or my family. Thanks, but no thanks Republican
Someone should do a poll to find out how many Americans, including my wife, inlaws, and me were seriously considering McCain until this outrageous and stupifying pick. There must be millions more.
Two thoughts: 1)Maybe he likes her looks...
2)Maybe he knew she was a bad pick, and hopes she will resign from the campaign soon, so he can pick Liebermann after all. But for now, the far right is happy with him for choosing a religious fanatic who looks like a Pentecostal pot-luck organizer.
Bill Clinton WAS impeached .
and found not guilty.
What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? He's not running for office.
Which had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with ISSUES at all.
Yes he was. And everybody knew about it.
And that, as much as anything is the reason Al Gore didn't get elected. It also played a role in Hillary not getting the nomination.
Actions have consequences.
Yes, but George W. Bush is the only one that SHOULD HAVE BEEN IMPEACHED for failing to preserve and protect the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES. Bill lied about cheating on his wife, Bush lied about Iraq's connection to 9/11. Which reminds me, so did McCain, when he insinuated that there was intelligence connecting Iraq to the anthrax attacks a few weeks after 9/11.
Her first speech conveyed a fresh, corruption-free, country first type of politician but then when more details turned up, she turned out to be an accomplished liar in that she twisted the truth, omitted the not-so-good details and only let us know of what she knew we wanted to hear. This is nothing about sexism, personal attack but her own real character and records. When we know more about them trufully, they will speak for themselves despite the first impression of "she is one of us" type.
Oh my God, she was almost recalled as mayor of WASILLA? Town of 5000? Good grief, McCain should just resign.
here is more on Hack n' Sack. Man she is worse than GWB going after people she doesn’t like, she is willing to throw other members of her party out the window then under the bus.

Even money says she does not last the week. She will withdraw to spend the time she needs for her family. McCain totally blew this choice he had since March to make.
I got money in that she doesn't last two weeks. It's been three days since she was announced and already there are a gazillion allegations against her and show no sign of stopping. McCain was supposed to be at this point consolidating the faithful for the convention but they've been on defense mode since the announcement. I'm waiting to see the reaction to Palin's belonging to a separatist party. Everyday just brings more bad news about her, if this continues she'll appear on the morning news giving the proverbial "I decided that my family needs me at this time" speech.
By the way, agreeing wholeheartedly with Schmeltzer, how can McCain claim to have thoroughly vetted Palin if:
A) Emails have just surfaced TODAY of her continuing investigation in Troopergate and
B) Why did McCain sent TODAY a dozen of his people to Alaska? Isn't this the type of vetting that should have taken place months ago?
It does say a lot about his judgment; I don't want anyone that impulsive and irresponsible with power to deploy troops or order air strikes. Up until 2000, I always saw McCain as one of the very few Republicans I could have voted for, but he's been selling his soul and getting crazier since. I never thought I'd say this, but even Bush had the sense to choose a VP that at least on paper solidified his ticket. McCain's gone off the deep end.
Heckuva job, McCain.
I was just watching CNN and they touched on both the Ethics investigation in Alaska and her 17 year old daughter and even spoke an interview on the Lou Dobbs show where the McCain rep bobbed and weaved and never answered the questions asked and pretty well said they didn't amount to anything. I used to really believe that CNN was Cable New Network. Now, they are truly NEOCNN. It's sad. I only hop and pray the American people see the danger of McCain and his horrible judgement before it is too late.
