Holy Majoly! Is this an SNL skit?
A McCain spokesman, on the whole issue of John McCain owning seven or eight houses, shoots back to Marc Ambinder, "Obama's charges "attack Cindy. She owns the homes. I thought he said the wives were off-limits.""
Paging Tommy Flanagan! "Yeah... that's the ticket! My WIFE'S houses!"
This, I guess, is better than the response earlier in the day, that John McCain isn't insanely rich with seven or eight homes, because he was a POW.
But not by much.
The real problem is that, once again, Senator McCain has become Senator Complain - whining that it's just not fair to question him. It's an act that wears really, really thin, really, really quickly. Americans who are afraid that they may have a house foreclosed on don't have much sympathy for someone whining that questioning them about their seven or eight homes is just mean. Having your family tossed out on the street by a lender is mean. Answering questions from reporters is pattycakes.

John McCain doesn't seem to get it that just saying everything belongs to his wife is in fact yet another sign that he is out of touch with America and Americans. My husband and I share. We share our home, our money, our kids and our life. That's how most married people in America live. For 26 years he's kept himself tidy on Senate disclosure forms by not having to claim Cindy's stuff. Of course he has had all the advantages of her money all these years and he lives in the houses, drives the cars, uses the jets. He's so used to having anything and everything that he has no idea at all what it's like to be a regular person who isn't one of the top 1% of wealthiest people in America. He and the republicans have passed legislation for taxes, loop holes, foreign trade and many other things that have resulted in the rich, like him, getting far richer and the other 90% of Americans sliding farther back. Per Brad Delong/Economist UC Berkley: 1946-1976 bottom 90% income rose 64%/top 1% income rose 20%. 1976-2006 bottom 90% income rose 10%/top 1% income rose 232%. Things were good for more of us under Clinton in the 90's. We've had twenty years of republicans out of the last twenty eight years. What's happened to the middle class is no accident. The republicans did it. Had enough?
For Obama's next comments critiziing McCain over this issue:
"Look... I know how many houses I have, and I understand what it's like to worry about paying the bills. I'm not attacking his wife. And I'm not questioning his memory. I'm questioning his judgment."
Oh yeah............I heard the 'they're attacking his wife' nonsense from a talking head on CNN, I think, last night. Nice try........
Sooo... he doesn't own any houses? And he couldn't remember that when the question was first asked?
Right.
Let's get this straight:
He needs his staff to tell him how many houses he owns.
It's not right to question a POW about his housing.
They're all Cincys houses.
And he's supposed to be a leader?
All he had to do was give a number reasonably close (we have about 5 or so, some are rental properties) and it's a non issue. The underlying issue is his constant fall back defense of he's a POW and shouldn't be questioned. By the way, I know how many houses my wife has.....
What kind of marriage is this? Who is living in these houses???
The kind of marriage where the wife adopts a baby without talking it over with you first. Weird, huh? Very very very weird.
Members of their families. Mostly hers.
This is the dumbest scandal ever
He is married to a wealthy woman. Think of a recent candidate who was also married to a wealthy woman. They owned mansions. Criticizing their wealth was considered unfair...then.
Not really. He got slammed many times for being an out of touch elitist with and uber-rich wife.
No it wasn't. Kerry's wealth was constantly attacked. He was presented as a social climber who married into money. Why is it unfair to question where McCain gets his money. Cindy's money has financed his entire career. That IS relevant.
I agree
McCain is the most inept campaigner of either party in my lifetime (I'm 65). It's a testament to just how cussed the Silent Majority in this country still is that McCain will likely defeat the most intelligent candidate of my lifetime, the best spoken, and the one who's run the most effective campaign, against amazing odds. The Silent Majority only like Reagan MORE whenever the liberals pointed out how stupid this or that remark of his was. The Silent Majority even dug in its heals defending Nixon during Watergate until Nixon himself was forced by confess he'd lied. Tragically, it's this Silent Majority which has controlled our presidential politics since '68 at least. The more stupid and inept McCain seems, the more he'll seem to our herd of dolts like "one of us."
Jeanrenoir: uh, could you please be a little less negative? Shh, its on the lowdown, the msm isn't reporting this but Obama has a ton more electoral votes than mcCain. Remember how in February all the math people were explaining that HRC no longer had a chance to win? That's what they're saying now about the general and the electoral votes.
We're not supposed to say it out loud or the media doesn't get money. But this doesn't mean you have to believe their baloney about it being a close race.
No More Chicken Little Democrats!!!! YOUR belief in us matters as much as Obama's!
Clearly McCain does not believe marriage is a UNION between two people. Her houses are his houses. If they were to divorce I bet they would become his to get his half.
Why does John McCain not believe in marriage?
