The National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) is encouraging people around the world to host a Global House Party on March 1, 2011 to commemorate the Peace Corps' 50th anniversary. This initiative is part of a year-long celebration of the Peace Corps in honor of its creation by President John F. Kennedy on March 1, 1961.
So far hundreds of people in nearly every U.S. state, and in countries around the world from Vanuatu to Vietnam, have signed up to host a Global House Party.
The gatherings will vary from a handful of friends to dozens of guests, from potluck dinners to catered affairs. Some will include former volunteers and their friends and family, while others will feature local, state, or national politicians.
