Do you ever feel like you've been working so hard and doing all the "right" things in your work, but feel like you're not achieving the success you dream of? Other people are getting the promotion you know you deserve. You know you are capable. You know your work is amazing and is meant to help the masses, but things just aren't gaining traction.

I finally figured out the surprising culprit that holds so many women back from living their dream and achieving their greatest success.

When I first ventured out as an author and speaker, the victories flowed with ease. I was fairly fearless and I just kept taking the next step without too much deliberation. I believed I could... and I did. I've witnessed this phenomenon in many and it's such a joy to watch people fully align with their purpose and carry it out with a sense of ease and courage. I'm sure you can think of many people who fit this description -- maybe you're even one of them.

It's fascinating to observe individuals who've achieved phenomenal success, and I have realized that they all have a few common traits. They believe in themselves and they just keep taking the next step to move themselves forward without stopping to consider how they might fail.

They have a fundamental belief in themselves and they aren't ruled by fear.

When fear creeps in... the flow of ease will slow. When self-doubt overshadows our work, the energy behind everything we do shifts and our effectiveness wanes. Our attractive energy is diminished, and even though we might be producing remarkable work, people can feel what's behind it.

As self-doubt crept in to every aspect of my life over the past two years while going through a divorce, my energy shifted. My fearlessness became overshadowed by anxiety, grief, and trepidation. While I still had the right words, my soul was being crushed and it seemed there was nothing I could do to prevent that energy from filtering into my work. My vibration had changed.

It's endlessly frustrating and I see women spinning their wheels and struggling with this all the time. How can it be overcome?

The way to achieve long-lasting change is to rebuild oneself from the inside. It starts with realigning with the Divine, which is the topic of my new book. We need to recognize negative thought patterns and internal energy shifts, and then learn to slowly love ourselves back into wholeness.

Our whole lives are a process of continually realigning with our truths and rebuilding ourselves from within. Nobody stays on top of the mountain forever! We might have years where we coast in the plateau of ease and success, but no life remains there indefinitely. The tough times are what will truly propel us to the next level of greatness, and our dark nights of the soul are important for growth.

Next time you find yourself struggling with self-love or floundering in your work, take a good look deep inside yourself and get curious about what exactly might be lurking within. Observe the root cause of your internal energy shift and take small, but deliberate steps to raise your vibration. When it's just a bad day, this shift can be as simple as snuggling with a child or dinner with a dear friend. When you've gone through a painful or major life shift, this effort needs to be real and sustained.

Give yourself a little break and practice self-love and do everything you can to reconnect with your soul in order to rebuild your self-worth. You are an amazing woman with so much to offer -- never lose sight of that truth!

HuffPost's GPS for the Soul app is based on two truths about human beings. First: We all have a centered place of wisdom, harmony and balance within us. Second: We're all going to veer away from that place, again and again and again. What we need is a great course-correcting mechanism -- a GPS for the Soul -- to help us find our way back to that centered place, from which everything is possible.

Because no one knows better than you what helps you de-stress and tap into that place of peace inside yourself, it's important for you to create your very own GPS guide -- a personalized collection of whatever helps you course-correct. Email us at GPS@huffingtonpost.com and we'll set you up with your very own HuffPost blogger account to share your guide on the site.
