I'll try to be brief. People should do whatever they choose. Get married, get divorced. Run for office, resign from office. Volunteer to clean up a highway, run screaming naked down the street. Have your fun, baby, and don't let no one keep you from it.
What people should not do is have their fun, all the while insisting they're doing it for someone else's benefit.
Deep within her rambling and disjointed "announcement" Friday morning, Sarah Palin stated that she's not going to seek reelection as Governor of Alaska. Then, she went on to say she'll be leaving office before her term is up because serving out the term she was elected to serve wouldn't be best for the people who voted her in. In other words, I'm leaving you -- but only because it's the best thing I can do for you.
It's easy to criticize, I know. But today I feel qualified. Because this is the identical excuse I gave to every girlfriend I broke up with in my twenties and thirties. I don't think many of them fell for it back then. I know they've all wised up since.
The question on my mind today is, how many of Sarah's millions of admirers will feel flattered by her most recent selfless and beneficent decision?
You can fool all of the people some of the time.
And you can fool some of the people all of the time.
And you can fool some of the people all of the time.
And you can fool some of the people all of the time...

So, she gets a couple million with the book deal. Then a couple million more from Fox or whoever hires her as a commentator. Plus, she travels and raises money for Republican candidates, making speeches preaching (literally) to the choir, making her beholden to a lot of powerful people. And she isn't holding public office, so she is somewhat immune from the negative press.
It's not such a bad deal. So, she won't be President any time soon since she is confirmed quitter. What difference does it make? She wouldn't get elected anyway against incumbent Obama.
I'm not a Palin fan at all. But, doesn't sound like such a bad deal to me.
Boy do I hope she runs for president in 2012 and gets the GOP nomination.
I can't think of a candidate more representative of the state of the GOP, or who would provide more of a cake walk of an election for the incumbent, very popular, Mr. Obama. Even if his popularity dips in the next 3 years, many in the middle, such as myself, would feel MUCH safer with him again, than entrusting someone like Palin to look out for OUR interests rather than her own...not to mention to actual stick out the entire 4 years, despite how hard of a job it is, and how often the president is attacked for just about everything he does and says.
It certainly helps to explain why she attended 5 different colleges...seems she doesn't have the attention span or self-discipline to stick ANYTHING out.
Sums her up. Brilliant!
Ain't that the truth.
And you can fool some of the people all of the time.
The Author of this blog, I am sure you are ready to be sued for defamation of character or whatever B.S she will come up with. Gosh, McCain should be held accountable for this lady. I think she should be credited for giving us an indepth view of the right wing.
Ah... I get it. She isn't quitting. She is moving up from Governor of Alaska to Lunatic Laureate of the Known Universe. Shrewd move, Sarah.
"Her people" are probably tickled pink that she'll be in the lower 48 for them to see. It should be quite a ride to see how much money and publicity she can rake in.
maybe her 2012 run will be under the proud flag of the alaskan independence party. also.
Maybe that's what Obama and Medvedev were negotiating?
Obama: "We'll give you Alaska back."
Medvedev: "Very well-- and what will you give us return for taking it?"
I don't think she needed to resign to be awarded that honor.
Lunatic Laureate--that is PRICELESS! I am SO stealing that!
Palin had gone well past the point where it matters if you fool some of the people all the time, or fool all the people some of the time. What really matters with the totally self absorbed is whether they can continue to fool themselves all the time. Palin's ego has remarkable endurance, but it will tire eventually. She can ask Mark Sanford about how that works.
Since it seems quite obvious that Sarah will feel no real damage from this
( Money from Book deal, speeches et al), then all her enablers should be
made to feel the pain. McCain for backing her, Bill Krystal and Fed Barnes
for continually promoting her as the second of the Madonna, and all the
Evangelical windbags who self promote, and financially rape their "Faithful"
for their own power and self-aggrandizement.
You got that right johnie2xs and as for her quitting for the benefit of the state please spare me the dribble from her mouth. She just does not want to be blamed when things go south JMO or maybe so0me of the rumors are not rumors at all ,Who knows Only Palin and I for one do not believe she even told her family anything!!!!!
in true narracistic form, she'll milk this (paid speeches/book deal) and ride the tide for the next 1 1/2 yrs. and see which way the winds blow.
You think Rupert is pleased with this?
John McCain really picked a winner.
A fool is a fool.
