Evie Hudak is a well-known advocate for children and public education with a long history of active involvement in her community. She was elected to the Colorado State Senate in 2008. Before that, she served for 8 years as an elected member of the State Board of Education, representing the 2nd Congressional District.

During the 2009 session of the Colorado General Assembly, Hudak served as the Vice Chair of the Senate Finance Committee and a member of the Senate Education Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee. She sponsored a key education bill that aligned the state’s three different education accountability systems, based on student longitudinal growth. She also sponsored a major bill on parent involvement in education.

While on the State Board of Education, Hudak served as the Board’s liaison to a number of committees, including the Colorado Special Education Advisory Committee, the State Advisory Committee for Gifted Education, and various committees of NASBE (National Association of State Boards of Education). She continues to work actively with many state education organizations, including the Colorado School Finance Project and the Colorado State Accountability Network.

Evie Hudak is an active participant in many community organizations, including the Business and Professional Women, Chamber of Commerce, and League of Women Voters. For the last 15 years, she has served on the Colorado PTA Board of Directors; she is also on her local PTA council’s board of directors.

Evie Hudak is a former teacher with two decades of experience at the K-12 and college levels. She served for several years as the state director of the School Readiness Quality Improvement Program through the Colorado Department of Human Services. Evie has been married to Edward Hudak for 37 years; they have one child, daughter Genevieve, a computer programmer who graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
