Brush your teeth before bed very thoroughly, drink lots of water before bed. The next day start with alkaseltzer, then rehydrate with 100% pure coconut water which has 20x the electrolytes as the average sports drink.

Brown rice tea, aka Gen Mai Cha, does wonders for light hangovers. Had a few times where I went out on a weeknight and was paying for it the next day at work. A few cups of this tea and it cleared up the hangover. I believe it's the antioxidants and water. I will say too that if you're a power drinker and going through a massive one, then you're SOL.

I also live by putting some form of grease in my system before going to bed. So I was out, did shots and other drinks, I'll seek out a 24-hour greasy spoon and have a burger or eggs and sausage. Seems to soak it all up and I don't feel too terrible the next day.

Bitters will calm an uneasy stomach almost instantly. My Grandfather used this remedy and if you try it you'll definately see why. It works.

nothing CURES a hangover, you can only make yourself feel better. You won't be "cured" of a hangover until your body metabolizes all the alcohol in your system and there isn't anything you can do to make your liver do that faster. Eggs, hot peppers, lots of water and even fatty foods will help you feel better, but you won't be cure and nothing technically prevents hangovers besides not drinking, so don't go drinking olive oil or chocking down fifteen oranges.

Time is the only real "cure". Most of these folk remedies are folks trying to cut corners that just won't be cut, based on your body weight, and metabolism, along with your general state of health. As I tried to say above: Avoid getting tipsy in the first place, and you won't have any corners to try to cut in the second place.

You've probably begun your celebrations by now, so for future reference (not that I know from personal experience or anything...):

1.) Make yourself a salad of cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, pineapple, strawberries, and grapes to have ready for your hangover. Watery fruits will rehydrate you, soothe your stomach, and do wonders for your headache.

2.) Get a large fountain Coke from your local convenience store or fast food restaurant. It must be Coca-Cola and it must come from a fountain, not a can or bottle. It's all about the syrup. I think pharmacies still sell Coca-Cola syrup to treat nausea.

3.) Tomato juice on ice with black pepper and lime.

4.) Scrambled eggs with hot sauce.

Happy New Year!

If you're serious about it, just find a friend who's a doctor, nurse or paramedic and have them hook you up with a banana bag or two.

Try vitamin B-12, the sublingual kind, before you go to bed and then a bit more when you wake up. Drink lots of water too, but not at the same time. I read about B-12 from a reliable source, maybe the New York Times in a health column. It really works.

I get clusters and I know way too much about headaches. My best advice is drink water between drinks. Water, water, more water. Keep a reusable liter bottle with you at all times and you will be amazed at how much water you drink. We get so used to portioning off our water at specific times, and your body would really prefer a lot more.

Magnesium helps a lot too -- if you drink too much (amateur!) pop some magnesium and b complex before bed.

Nothing helps kick a headache like deep dark murky coffee. I use espresso ground coffee in a french press. I am lucky enough to have an oxygen tank too. Do they still have oxygen bars?

be careful about too much magnesium.

Drink a pedialyte before going to bed! It restores your electrolytes and hydrates you faster than plain water.

Before or after drinking, I take 2-3 multivitamins before going to bed, and make yourself drink 2-3 large glasses of lukewarm water to replenish (some) lost nutrients and to re-hydrate and help flush your system before sleeping.

Juice or anything else high in sugar doesn't help me in the morning, but potato chips do work pretty well, or anything else salty, like sausage or bacon, or even hashbrowns.
