Fisher Stevens has appeared in over 40 stage productions and over 60 film and television programs. He has evolved from one of the most versatile actors of his generation, into a multiple Oscar nominated producer.

Stevens began his acting career in NY, appearing in the Tony winning productions of Torch Song Trilogy, Brighton Beach Memoirs and Carousel. He was a student of theater, and studied with the incredible Uta Hagen. He parlayed his stage success into film and was seen in such classics as The Flamingo Kid, Short Circuit and Reversal of Fortune.

In 1986 Stevens co-founded the downtown NY theater company Naked Angels that is still active today. Original members included Marisa Tomei, Sarah Jessica Parker and Rob Morrow. He also co-founded GreeneStreet Films in 1996, where Stevens had his directorial debut with the film Just A Kiss. He produced and co-produced over 15 films while involved with GreeneStreet including the Academy Award nominated film In The Bedroom, A Prairie Home Companion and acclaimed documentary Once In A Lifetime.

Over the years, Stevens has developed a tremendous passion for making documentaries. The Cove, which Stevens produced about the dolphin slaughter in Japan, is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary. The film has been showered with awards, including the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and Best Documentary honors at the National Board of Review, LA Film Critics Association, and Environmental Media Awards (full list of award’s located below). Additionally, Stephens co-directed the documentary Crazy Love that won the 2006 Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary.

Stevens is simultaneously working on two intriguing films. One is entitled The War Against War which takes an in-depth look at the United Nations Peacekeeping missions in global hotspots. The War Against War had been focusing on United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti when the devastating 7.0 earthquake hit on January 12, 2010. The documentary will now include how the devastation left behind threatens the progress of peacekeeping , and how the peacekeepers adjust to the rising demands placed on them in the wake of the quake. The other film is about the Lake Tanganyika Floating Health Clinic, following a cardiothoracic surgeon who is raising money to build a boat to act as a floating hospital. Also in the pipeline Stevens will be Executive Producing along with Ben Stiller a documentary on Budd Schulberg.

Stevens is still actively working in front of the camera. He has a recurring role on Lost playing George Minkowski, one of the people on the freighter, and has recently guest starred on Ugly Betty, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Numb3rs. In the winter of 2010 Stevens will be seen in The Experiment with Adrien Brody and Forrest Whitaker and the teen comedy called Rising Stars. He is currently shooting Henry’s Crime with Keanu Reeves and Vera Farmiga.
