Dr. Seuss Meets the iPhone

Remember the days as a child when you would beg your mom (or in my case dad) to read you a Dr. Seuss story? Well, children (and moms & dads) these days are blessed with the magic of the iPhone for instant entertainment. And what better way to occupy a child in an educational, fun way then to have a library of Dr. Seuss apps on your iPhone?

With the growing world of technology upon us, new ways of learning are being invented. Enter the iPhone (and iPad). Moms are handing over their beloved iPhones to their children on a regular basis in order to keep them occupied and entertained while shopping, making dinner or standing in line at the post office. Educational apps are a new and exciting way for moms to not feel guilty for using technology as a distraction.

Well, the caring folks over at Oceanhouse Media create apps that uplift, educate and inspire. They have licensed with Dr. Seuss Enterprises to bring his beloved children's classics to the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. As a birthday present to all, Tuesday, March 2nd, they are dropping the price of their entire line of Dr. Seuss iPhone / iPod Touch apps to an astonishing $0.99 for one day only, in honor of Theodor Geisel's (Dr. Seuss) birthday and Read Across America Day.

"We are excited to honor Theodor Geisel by making these products available at an incredible price for one day only. It is our goal to deliver apps that keep with Dr. Seuss's tradition of improving learning and literacy in elementary schools," said Michel Kripalani, President of Oceanhouse Media. "Keep your eyes out for more of Dr. Seuss's beloved, classic children's stories, games and activities for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad soon. In fact, we believe that the iPad will be a revolutionary device for children's literature and learning."

Available are interactive eBooks like The Cat in the Hat, Dr. Seuss's ABC and How the Grinch Stole Christmas! They combine the beautiful original artwork of the books with innovative features that promote reading in young children, including highlighted picture / word associations, professional narrations and custom background audio.

Also available are the Dr. Seuss Camera apps where users to create unique and whimsical photo cards using the iPhone's built-in camera or Photo Library. They can pose with or choose to become characters from the books. Cards can be personalized with comical and colorful stamps, borders and classic Seussian text and then e-mailed to friends and family or saved to the Photo Library.

And Grinchmas! is a fun, casual game of skill and accuracy, normally priced at $1.99. It was the #1 Kids Game, #2 Family Game and the Top 8 Paid App on the App Store for the holiday season.

Yes, a dear friend did create this, and no not the reason I am writing about it, though I do look forward to working with her to help bring Hippo Works productions and other great children's programming into the now!
