20 Exotic McDonald's Sandwiches

Posted: 12/15/11 01:36 PM ET

Exotic and McDonald's don't really belong in the same sentence, do they? Words more commonly associated with the burger giant tend to be "obesity" and "suburbia," unless, of course, you hit the road. Discover how McDonald's personalizes burgers with these 20 international Mac attacks across the globe.

What do you think the international McFare, worth a try or just sheer McMadness?

McDonald's Egypt offers a falafel sandwich that rivals a Big Mac any day. The falafel patties are shaped to look like burgers and drenched in the ever-present secret sauce that seems to pop up everywhere, from Europe to NYC halal carts. After inquiring, I found out the sauce was a not-so-mysterious but delicious tahini-garlic dressing. With the secret reveled, why not whip up some quick, homemade falafel and proceed to drench in sauce?

Some of those from the Middle East and Balkans look pretty good. I wish McDonald's would try them out here.

Highly deceptive and disturbing. Some of this stuff looks kind of good, even.

Mince pies are not made with meat! "Mince meat" is actually a mixture of raisins and other dried fruit, nuts and sometimes some ort of alcohol.

It is hard to beleive that people actually eat McD's anymore, what with what we know about beef, etc. McD's is the biggerst purchaser of beef eyeballs -yes, eyeballs are in U.S. McD hamburgers.

The McDo in the Philippines is a strange textured "burger" (almost like a Stouffer's patty of some sort) with banana ketchup. Not bad if you like a plain "burger" with sort of a sweet ketchup.

My husband and I are expats living in Europe, and we have a tradition of eating at McDonald's once in each country we go to. They all have something a little different. We've seen a few of the things mentioned....also the "McArabia" in Morocco, and a delicious panini-like sandwich in Rome.

Although McDonald's was never a place we particularly loved to eat at in the states, there's something comforting about eating in a "familiar" place, in an unfamiliar country. Vast differences in cuisine can be some of the more difficult aspects of travelling.

Keep the sandwiches, I like the McWine that was available in Italy. The bulgogi burger is not bad but tastes nothing like bulgogi. The pork burger is not bad.

I've never had it, but I couldn't help but notice that it's still fried, not baked. Made me insanely jealous.
