I make a mean peach pie but if you're ever in Arizona please go to a little place called Rock Springs Cafe in Rock Springs, Arizona (about 30 miles north of Phoenix). The Jack Daniels Pecan pie is an amazing creation.
Every time my girlfriend and I stop for a slice she can't go more than a mile without devouring the entire thing!

might want to swing by Middlebury, Indiana too. Amish Acres and all the other eateries in and around the county too. those Amish ladies could probably teach those big-city youngins' a thing or too.

Man, this is a topic I can sink my teeth into. One of my favorite pies is the rhubarb pie made at Tom Thumb Drive Inn in Fort Dodge, Iowa. That stuff is some kind of good.

The best pie (outside of my grandmas) was at this little hole in the wall "Weaver's Dinner" in Villa Grove, IL, my old home town. Their pie crust had cinnamon and sugar baked into it and it was so luscious! However, Weavers had a secret: it wasn't Mrs. Weaver who made the pies but this little old lady who went to my church, Mrs. Tewell. Years later the secret came out and it was a scandal.;)

I had an uncle from Chicago who open an ice cream store. Every time he came back to visit he'd buy about 10 pies and take them back. You know they had to be worth the drive!.

You missed the best spot for pies in the U.S....... The Norski Nook in Osseo Wisconsin. That place is a legend. It brings veteran bakers in to get a great slice from all over the midwest. Then they fall on their knees and weep with joy. Oh Yah, dat der Norski Nook is da best hey!!

Amen, Brother!
A group of us stumbled upon the Norski Nook returning from a Boundary Waters trip 10 years ago and were so impressed that we stopped there early in the AM as we drove up 2 years later. We ended up taking a strawberry-rhubarb masterpiece into the Waters the next day. It was the best pie ever, ever, ever ....!!!! We even used the large heavy aluminum pie plate as a skillet for two huge lake trout that a couple of the guys caught.
I still have that plate.

Be sure to search on Norski Nook before you go. There are actually 5 different branches and I'd bet the pies are great at all of them.

The best pie is home made and made in your own kitchen with good quality ingredients. Pie crust doesn't sit around but is meant to be eaten as soon as the pie has set, otherwise it gets soggy.
