Oliver Stone: Bush Would Have Died In Vietnam

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Oliver Stone is on Bill Maher right now. Maher opened by asking whether he ever knew Bush back at Yale when they started together as freshman. Stone said no but that he knew "that type" and that Yale frat "boys" hark back to the 1950s. Surprisingly, according to Stone and probably some women out there, John Kerry was the man in Yale back when Stone and Bush were freshman.

How weird to think that a future president--either a force of evil, as we've had the last eight years, or good--is hitting up the same dive bars and sports bars and Gaps as we are. Wait. Unless he or she is another Connecticut trust-fund baby then I know we probably wouldn't cross paths.

Maher went on to ask Stone which caused greater damage to the U.S., Al Queda or the financial greed machines on Wall Street. Stone went with Al Queda, explaining how Bush played into their hands and made a very emotional decision pressured by his father to go into Iraq. He tried to kill ma daddy!

The line that got a host of cheers from Maher's audience was when he asked Stone what would have happened if Bush had gone to Vietnam. Stone, who dropped out of Yale to serve, said, "Frankly he would have died." Insert audience laughter here.

It still astounds me that Kerry, who *did* serve and who *was* awarded medals for serving with honor, was Swiftboated, and it worked (!), while W was basically a rich-boy dodger and completely got a pass on it.

Almost as much as Clinton getting reamed for smoking weed, while W got a pass on the whole alcoholic/coke-user/fratboy thing.

A "leader" like Bush would have been fragged in Viet Nam.

For the record, Bush Sr. and all his contemporaries tried to stop gEoRgiE from invading Iraq.

For the record, yeah. And W played the "he tried to kill ma daddy card."
