It's very early in the presidential election, so up until now I'd basically been keeping my head down, paying mild attention to candidate news, and waiting for a few of these people to drop out before seriously considering who to vote for two Novembers from now (Oh, and Jesus H. on the two Novembers from now thing, American Electoral Process). But then I read something in the New York Times this weekend that solidified my choice.

"I saw the difference in the way people responded to me when I was talking from here," [John Edwards] told me that day, patting his heart, "and not from here." He raised a finger to his head.

HOLD THE ELECTION TOMORROW, WASHINGTON, I AM READY!

Sure, there's lots of information in the Sunday Times Magazine about Edwards' fight against poverty, which he is making into the central fulcrum of his platform, but what it really highlighted, as this quote shows, is Edwards' willingness to condescendingly dig up old tropes from a 1950s Disney film about the magical power of the human heart when you are faced by dragons and/or a mean witch.

If Obama and Clinton aren't careful, Edwards just might realize he doesn't even need his lucky feather to fly!
