This year, we're facing the most important election in a generation. As Americans, we must ask ourselves which candidate will bring about the change our country so desperately needs. In my opinion, Barack Obama is the only candidate with the judgment to move our country forward.
The disastrous consequences of George W. Bush's poor judgment over these last 7 1/2 years are all too apparent. Now, John McCain is offering 4 more years of Bush -- while Barack Obama offers the change in direction our country so desperately needs.
Barack had the judgment to oppose the war in Iraq before it began, and he is ready to bring our troops home and end the occupation of Iraq in a responsible way. John McCain has said that American troops should be willing to stay in Iraq for 100 years.
Barack will engage in the diplomacy that is necessary to bring stability to the Middle East. Just like George Bush, John McCain repeatedly resorts to saber-rattling and threats about invading Iran while revealing a startling ignorance of the basic issues that define the politics of the region.
Barack knows we have to invest in renewable energy to end America's dependence on foreign oil and fight global warming. And like George Bush, John McCain is in the pocket of big oil.
It's about judgment -- and I think the answer is clear.
While I respect John McCain's service, I know exactly what he stands for -- Bush's third term. And in national security terms, John McCain is largely untested and untried. He's never been responsible for policy formulation. John McCain is calculating that he will use the national security debate to his advantage. He's wrong.
Like Bush, McCain has always been for the use of force, force, and more force. In my experience, the only time to use force is as a last resort. When John McCain talks about throwing Russia out of the G8 and makes irresponsible comments about bombing Iran, he reveals his own disrespect for the office of the presidency.
And while he's all too willing to continue putting our troops in harm's way, John McCain initially refused to support providing benefits like the new GI Bill to our veterans because he believes that providing good education opportunities to our troops will hurt retention. That's ridiculous.
We need new leadership in the White House -- not George Bush's third term.
Last week I sat down with Barack Obama. I know he's the right person to lead our country forward. Now we need to come together and support his campaign for change.
As I see the sacrifices our troops and their families make every day; as I see Americans buckling under the weight of record high gas prices; and as I see families struggling with sky rocketing health care costs, I know this:
We simply can't afford another 4 years of the McCain-Bush-Cheney agenda.

Obama hangs Clark out to dry:
Democrat Barack Obama rejected a retired general's Clark's suggestion that Republican John McCain's military experience didn't necessarily qualify him to be president."
Obama's campaign spokesman, Burton said, "Sen. Obama honors and respects Sen. McCain's service, and of course he rejects yesterday's statement by Gen. Clark."
Hmmm, I guess they won't be spending much time in a foxhole together after all.
General, you took your best shot, metaphorically speaking, and lost.
Political rough and tumble could be worst than taking incoming.
Good luck in 2012.
Excellent! Thank you Gen. Clark for speaking out on this issue.
Thank you for the straight talk, General. Please stick with it.
If we are to believe that McCain (a moderate republican) would look like a 3rd Bush (a conservative republican) term, wouldn't that require a republican controlled House and a republican controlled Senate or the very least a democratic controlled House and Senate that enables conservative ideas?
I mean Bush had it so very easy because his party people were there to back him up and quiet the dems. With a control over House and Senate the dems, if they are as unified as they say they are, would be able to control any far right notions by a President McCain.
Maybe McCain's qualifications or lack of same are completely beside the point. Maybe he is just another useful idiot, in the tradition of Reagan and Bush, whose function is to serve as front man for the real masters of the universe.
General, you were awesome today on FTN. The republicans are claiming that you denigrated McCain's service. You did no such thing.
Keep telling the truth. Serving in the military or even being a POW are not qualifications for being president, especially when you graduate in the bottom 1% of your class!
It's about time somebody spoke out against this ridiculous rumor that McBush is somehow more "qualified" just because he was a POW 30+ years ago. If anything, I think he's a little screwed up in the head because of it, and I would never trust McBush' s temperament to be a so called commander in chief. The only thing he's qualified to command is a golf cart.
mccain has been touting this "maverick" thing for way too long. He has opposed a few things the repus wanted 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 years ago but in the last 7, and more particularly the last 3, all he has done is kiss bushie's ass. I am much more of a maverick and straight-talker, and I usually get bumped for speaking the truth rather than the politcally correct. That he served is to his credit although he probably got kid-glove treatment on his father's and grandfather's coattails from the beginning. Once the VC found out who they had, it's likely he got preferential treatment from that point on (nothing they could do about the damage already done) and it is time mccain stops being treated like some superman who singlehandedly saved 50 men from dying, crawled through snakes and crocodiles carrying a wounded buddy, etc. None of that happened and mccain has no more experience in diplomacy than my dog. And he is stupid enough to sing on television "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran." This is a leader?
Bush's third term will be handsomely served by Obama. The Obamacons are just the latest incarnation of the same crowd who have been controlling this country since Bush got in.
are you even paying attention?
McCain has the same mental acuity as Bush. McCain graduated from the naval academy at the bottom of his class. He wanted to be Admiral like daddy and grandaddy but his qualifications fell short for that position. So he entered into politics. He failed at both the mental and leadership levels early in his career. Experience is meaningless, understanding is everything.
Is he a “maverick”? I don't think so. He is an “opportunist”! He changes his position to suit his needs. He is noted for his vindictive temper ready for revenge. We cannot have this loose cannon sitting in the White House. He could be far worse than Bush!
I sure hope that voters do their research and vote for what is best for their country rather than for political hyperbole.
Edwards would be the best choice for vp.
McCain's best match for vp would be Tom Delay!!!
burp!
Clark for VP!
Look, McCain is a sick man, a VERY SICK MAN. Just watch him. He is really mentally imbalanced.
the general is self serving and only interested in his personal enrichment.....don't get fooled by this Clinton loyalist that ads nothing to the Obama candidacy....
This attitude will get you where you are, gridlock. Look at the great people who shifted the debate. Mandela crossed the room to work with the party that destroyed so many of his peoples lives. He changed the game. If you cant do it with the Clintons how can you do it with the GOP. If you cant do it with them you are screwed.
Nader is correct, the level of this debate is pathetic.
Mandela did cross the room to reconcile with his enemies but he did not share power with them to the extent that the Clintons are demanding....Obama needs to draw the line.....Hillary on the supreme court would be good for the country.....Wesley Clark in an appointed position would be fine.......but Obama needs to assert the political power that he has earned and make it clear that this will be his administration......capitulating to the demands of the Clinton machine at this early (or any) stage is the wrong thing to do...for the country and for the people that enthusiastically embraced his candidacy as an alternattive to the arrogant power represented by the Clinton/Bush mindset....
this is not a pathetic discussion...it is fundemental to the kind of government we are going to have for the next four to eight years.
Nader has become weird. Now Obama is bad because he doesn't fist pump and yell,"power to the people!" using some other dialect.
Respect him for past work, but when he took Republican money during the campaign against Gore, and then went back on his word to pull out of battleground states, he earned my disgust.
I think I won't be fooled by a Republican loyalist trying to smear a great VP candidate!
Posts like yours, michael429, are exactly the kind of attacks we'll see more of from you and your ilk. It won't work.
General Clark would be a great choice--a true hero, brilliant, honest, knowledgable about military and economic matters, with a calm logical temperament much like Obama himself. They would be a fabulous team. (Plus, the Clinton connection can only be helpful).
Obama/Clark '08 -- The Republicans worst nightmare!
"don't get fooled by this Clinton loyalist" ???
Wes Clark is LOYAL to AMERICA.
So who is michael429?
it is laughable that anyone would interpret my remarks to brand me as a McCain supporter....it is kind of typical of the Clinton mentality to try and smear anyone that disagrees with their agenda....i think it is time for those that feel that way to learn to live with the fact that they are not calling the shots anymore and the page is turning......it is the Clinton supporters that have been threatening to vote for McCain....even during the worst of the primary season neither i nor anyone i know active in the Obama campaign ever considered voting for McCain....never.
Wesely Clark has never been elected to public office....he has no potential to deliver a single state...and his experience is one dimensional..theire are better qualified candidates and better candidates from a strategic point of view.....we need to win this thing..... but we don't need to end up with a dysfunctional government where those in power have questionable loyalties to Barack and/or their own agenda.....this is an opinion based upon pretty good knowledge of the candidates......
If McCain becomes president and says "bomb bomb bomb Iran" again, then the price of oil will jump $50 overnight. That will add $2 per gallon to gas. Our economy is crashing as people react to high gas. Ford and GM will soon go bankrupt unless oil drops $50 per barrell. And killing the car companies is only 10% of the total impact on the economy. When McCain actually bombs Iran, expect gas to go to $8 per gallon. Expect the housing forclosures to jump by several million, state budgets to crash, all sectors of the economy depending on consumer discretionary spending to cut in half, and major financial crisis to explode as credit card debt is written off and bankruptcies become the final solution.
Clark or Biden for Veep!
Biden is needed in the U S Senate.
