Last week, Rush Limbaugh labeled any American soldier who supports an end to the war in Iraq as "phony." We challenged Limbaugh through an email campaign to invite VoteVets.org's Jon Soltz to his show and repeat these same insults to an Iraq war veteran's face. Over 10,000 people responded and emailed Rush -- but to our disappointment, he has refused to respond to our request.
It's time to put real pressure on Rush Limbaugh. His show is broadcast on Armed Forces Radio, and this time we are going to go straight to the lifeblood of Rush's show -- Congress. Congress has the power to remove Rush Limbaugh from Armed Forces Radio, and it won't be as easy for elected officials to ignore our call.
Tax dollars are used to fund Armed Forces Radio, and that money is not intended for radio show hosts to spout insults at our soldiers. These "phony soldiers" have simply exercised their right to free speech, as Rush Limbaugh does on a daily basis. Simply because a majority of our troops who return from Iraq disagree with Rush on Bush's failed war policy does not give him the right to dishonor their service.
Unlike Rush Limbaugh, members of Congress cannot casually brush off the concerns of citizens. Since Rush won't listen to us, we're going directly to Congress, who can prevent him from disrespecting and censoring the voices of our soldiers.
How have Republicans in Congress chosen to respond so far? Congressional Republicans have actually drafted a resolution supporting Rush Limbaugh, "commending [his] relentless efforts to build and maintain troop morale through worldwide radio broadcasts and personal visits to conflict regions."
That's outrageous. Rush Limbaugh's "phony soldiers" comment should not be commended -- it should be condemned. And it's time to tell Congress to act swiftly to hold Rush Limbaugh accountable.

It is always nice to see liberals calling for the eradication of free speech. What is next on the Socialists list to rid our country of? I would think as upset you are at at the spending of money in Iraq that you would be equally upset at the $Trillion of wasteful spending at the hands of our politicians not to mention the $700 billion Ted Kennedy Education program or the $900 Billion Ted Kennedy Medicare program. But limiting free speech or banning books when things don't go your way on as little as two words? First of all Clark needs to read the Limbaugh transcript more thoroughly as well as Bill Maloney's story from ABC on "Phony Veterans" (as in never served) which occurred two days earlier and Limbaugh was commenting on. About those same people the Anti-War Movement were parading around whose inflammatory statements were broadcast to the Middle East as fact further endangering our troops. Similar to what was done with the Michael Isikkoff story from Newsweek of soldiers unrinating on Koran's which was retracted and also cost people lives for his journalistic fraud. And he kept his job.
Really if the Liberals had the balls they would rescind the First Ammendment for everyone. That would really make this country better wouldn't it?

Get REAL. Some people are fed-up with all the hatred and small mindedness that Rush has spewed over our air waves for years, and they say he needs to be taken off the air. Folks are just blowing off steam.

Mr. Limbaugh claims that he has always supported our armed forces. Where was he during Vietnam that was the time to show how much he loves the military. It was either from a cyst on his butt or a deferment it does not matter he chose not to serve. Mr. Limbaugh you will never know the pride a person feels from serving their country in uniform. For you to even suggest that any soldier or veteran is a "phony" just confirms my opinion that you are a coward and it is better that you did not serve.
While your at it since you brought up Vietnam where was the Democrats in Vietnam a war started by JFK, escalated to 500,000 troops by Lyndon Johnson and after more than 30,000 dead handed over to Nixon. Reid should step down for wasting taxpayers money pursuing the utterance of two words by Limbaugh in reference to that story, he himself never read. Reid has said much worse inflamatory statements against the military I would have thought for an instance he would have cheered Limbaugh.
Get your facts straight. It wasn't the Eisenhower or Kennedy advisory commitments that got us into trouble. It was the Johnson-Nixon war of 1965-73 with the US armed forces doing the heavy lifting that became so objectionable to the American people. How about the "peace is at hand" story in October of 1972 and the Christmas bombing shortly thereafter? What the Democrats did after Kissenger's failed peace treaty was refuse to re-engage in the failed policy. In the end, it was the South Vietnamese government that failed their own people.

As anyone actually read the transcript from Meida Matters or am I just hallucianating (no comments). I read the transcript and did not see any reference to 'Phone Soldiers' being those soldiers who ar 'Anti-War', 'Leftists', or whatever. All I heard Rush say is 'Phony Soldiers' in response to what caller2 stated about soldiers the media brings forth for their talk shows. There was no reference to 'Anti-war', nor did Rush talk about anyone in particular other than this Macbeth knob. I'm not seeing the controversy. I am seeing the so-called left trying to infer that 'Phony Soldiers' is a code word or 'Anti War' soldiers,however, this inference is weak because the only context is Macbeth who is in fact a 'Phony Soldier.'

No. He said "the phney soldiers" out of the blue in reply to the comment on those in the military who critisize the war. No names were named at that point. So don't read edited transcripts. I've never listened to Armed Forces Radio so I don't know if there is a need for comedy shows like Rush's Limboland gig. If the military thinks that our soldiers need that comic relief in their dreary days of serving in Iraq, so be it.

I could not disagree more with this. Don't encourage them to take Rush off the schedule, because there will come a day when they go after the good guys, like Ed Schultz. Better yet, encourage them to ADD more liberal and centrist political talk, to provide a better balance of view points.

Gen. Clark, when is our military going to protect us from the domestic enemies within our government which they are sworn to do? We have criminals running it at the highest levels. WHEN? Do I have to watch these guys walk off into the sunset with no justice served EVER?
