My production company Big City Pictures shot a 2005 interview with now Michelle Obama inaugural day dress designer Isabel Toledo and I thought today might be a fitting time to unearth it a bit. The occasion was an exhibit of her and illustrator husband Rueben Toledo's work at the Barneys Store in midtown NYC. Having seen a number of her pieces up-close, we have to say the details are exquisite as are the silhouettes. Some may have particular opinions about the new First Lady's lacy golden frock, but we leave that to you all to discuss. Questions of taste aside, we think it's great that Cuban-American Toledo did the dress for the first African-American first lady: it's an inclusive gesture to our country's latinos and a hopeful nod toward our neighbors in Cuba to the south.
