An Economic Disaster for Working Families

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Since January, more than 600,000 Americans have lost their jobs. The jobless rate is at a five-year high. Home foreclosures are at a 30-year high. Food and fuel costs are skyrocketing. On Thursday the Dow plunged more than 300 points. Yet John McCain spoke last night for close to an hour and failed to offer a single solution to the real problems facing American families. His support of massive tax cuts for the wealthy and trade policies that encourage the outsourcing of American jobs have created an economic disaster for working families.

For eight years, John McCain has sided with George W. Bush and looked out for corporate interests while America's working families saw their jobs disappear, their benefits cut and their wages stagnate. All week long, the Republicans have given us sarcasm instead of solutions, partisan politics instead of sound proposals, derision instead of goals.

Americans are waking up to the fact that John McCain is offering only more of the same. We need leaders who will fight for tax cuts for the middle class; support affordable, quality health care for all; and stop rewarding companies that ship American jobs overseas. We need leaders who understand what working Americans are facing and will change the harsh economic policies of the last eight years.
