Regret, second-guessing, torment, betrayal. These are just some of the emotions that lead to doubt, hesitation and uncertainty among women. Today, women worldwide have been celebrated and acknowledged for their contributions in society, be it in a political, human rights or economic setting. Dr Michela Rosati has contributed on a psychological level through her work with women in Europe.

In an interview with the Italian Book club, Rosati stresses that The Cage of Paper provides readers with valuable insights to refine the ability to explore their inner selves. "They'll be able to enjoy reading stories of everyday dynamics of a woman today who is forced to juggle old and new stereotypes, as well as the expectations and desires of others."

Common fears that block the happiness of women is a huge subject, one that has been tackled fearlessly by Dr. Michela Rosati in her book The Paper Cage: 7 common fears that block the happiness of women. Michela Rosati is a psychologist and psychotherapist who specializes in Cognitive Behavior Psychotherapy and is President of the Umbria region of the Italian Society of Psychology and Psychiatry. Some of the ingrained female fears Dr. Rosati addresses in her book are the fear of disappointing others, of not being good enough, of being alone and of being betrayed or unfortunate.

By placing these fears in a "paper" cage, Dr. Rosati conveys the idea that they are actually a mental problem which can be changed. She says the image of a cage occurred often in conversations with her patients and she felt the term was a way to open a different path to exploring their feelings. In primitive times, fear was a necessary component of survival. Now, human minds have gone through a process enabling survival in a world full of dangers. Primitive man was programmed to watch for real threats to personal safety. Today, the enemy in women's minds is generally more abstract; the instinct to physically run away is not as useful, because one cannot physically run away from anxiety-causing thoughts of the mortgage due at the end of the month. The mindset for dealing with fears needs to be changed.

"The fear of disappointing others, not being nice and of being alone, as well as betrayal. They are a few of the most common fears of women," says Rosati.

The book contains seven steps to get out of what Rosati calls "that cage of paper that we built or in which we found regret... These 137 pages make up the cute litmus to all those impediments that clutter like weeds. They are gardens of our lives and they deserve many other flowers to keep women's lips from feeling the bitterness of their roots.

That is a huge subject, one that has been tackled fearlessly by Dr. Michela Rosati in her book. Some of the ingrained female fears Dr. Rosati addresses in her book are the fear of disappointing others, of not being good enough, of being alone, and of being betrayed or unfortunate.

Dr. Rosati feels it always possible to escape the cage of mental constructs and that, although a book cannot completely change perspectives, it can help reduce ignorance and stimulate individual reflection. Her book talks about the fears of women, but the topics discussed also have application to men.
