A Smile Says a Thousand Words

FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION A GRANDMOTHER COUNTS!

Several friends and acquaintances have caught me off guard with the comment: "You always walk into a room, whether on your walker or wheel chair, always with a smile."

For those of you who don't know, I broke my ankle eleven weeks ago. I have not walked on two legs in months! I was in a temporary cast for almost two weeks, a non-walking cast for one month, and have been in a non-walking boot for the past five weeks! My only way of navigation is a walker, a wheelchair, unlimited help from my loving husband, my family or close friends. Everything I do takes twice as long. I am handicapped and impatient yet I am smiling. Why?

A phone conversation today with my first-born grandson put me in a "thinking mood" after we hung up. He called to see how I was feeling. I told him, "I'm just fine and doing everything I possibly can do with a smile on my face. His response caught me off guard and made me very happy when he said, "Honey (my gramma name) whenever I have a problem to solve I always remember the two phrases you instilled in me: Always see the glass half full and make lemonade out of lemons." I smiled!

I thought long and hard about his comments. I asked myself: how have I managed this past two months to continue smiling? The answer: My own grandmother! Her uplifting personality and true grit were an inspiration to this granddaughter. I obviously have carried on her trait from my grandmother to her granddaughter, and now to my grandson from his grandmother. For that, I am smiling.

Grammas and moms, below is a quote you should teach your grandchildren and children. It explains the phrases: "Always see the Glass Half Full" and "Make Lemonade out of Lemons."

-A MAN COMPLAINED HE HAD NO SHOES. THEN HE SAW A MAN WHO HAD NO FEET"
