The media's constant 24 hour chaos coverage is destroying the hopes and dreams of mankind. I fear the media's perpetual sensationalizing of bad news more than I do the threat of pandemic flu's, wars and a faltering economy combined. I know they say they want to present all sides and that the public has a right to know everything but notice that 95% of all their coverage is negative, and the more negative and sensational the story the more they cover it! The media knows that murder, sex, conspiracies, company failures, fear, and scandals sell papers and advertising. They further fuel the fires of chaos and hopelessness as they continue to disseminate the negative with no regard for the effect their reporting has on the public's emotional and mental state.
The media thrives on and depends on bad news for its survival, like a parasite eating away at its organism, sucking hope from entire populations of the people they call viewers. It rotates its coverage from one sensational event to the next until the story wears out, and then it searches for the next fear-provoking story. It's coverage includes terrorism to conspiracy, bank failures to bankruptcy, and then exploits unemployment and foreclosures. When all that tires, it moves to the pandemic flu's calling 1000 infected a pandemic. And if you don't pay attention then they promote the possibility that the viewers are becoming complacent, setting us all up for a major disaster in the future. It is non-stop, endless and competitive reporting of chaos with no end and no solution.
They justify their reporting by calling it freedom of speech and public awareness but the real goal is to create as much fear as possible in order to sell their newspapers and advertising. It is interesting that the pharmaceutical companies that sell pills for all your fears, irrational thoughts, behaviors and problems are the media's biggest source of income.
Negativity, bad news, and attention on problems kill more dreams than all the crime and wars combined kill people. All you have to do is walk the streets of any medium-sized city in the world and you will see mass numbers of people walking with their heads down, shoulders slumped, fearful, hopeless and apathetic. This was not the emotional condition of mankind fifty years ago before 800 TV channels, the internet and newspapers.
This attack should not be limited to the media but should include anyone that is fixated on perpetuating bad news and negativity-- like your family, friends, relatives, neighbors and co-workers. The constant commitment and dissemination of negativity, fear and hype should be treated like the trash and taken out to the curb for garbage pickup.
I am personally sick of the constant 24 hour-a-day dissemination of fear-provoking, 'grab ratings-at-whatever-the-cost' reporting. Now is the time for each of us to focus on solutions not problems, hope not fear, and the positive not the negative. Life is difficult enough you don't need anyone making it more difficult. Write your local paper and your favorite TV channel and tell them you are sick of their constant coverage of chaos. Then Inform those around you that you will no longer tolerate them spreading bad news, gossip and chaos so that you can focus on your dreams and create the life you want and deserve.

I agree. It has crept into the national, state, city and family dialog poisoning society. I fear the media more than terrorists.

Sure it was. I was there. I remember.
People have been delivering this same spiel about the media for as long as I can remember. They say the same thing in old movies from the 1930s. They probably said the same thing about telegraph operators and, long before that, about the wandering minstrels who sang about current events.
Of course, today it's more frenetic, but so is everything else. Popular music, for instance, is incomprehensible.
I agree that the media need to be overhauled, starting with banning most commercials and ads. We need an independent commission to oversee a public funded, greatly streamlined media that would operate in a mature and responsible manner. No more wall-to-wall Paris Hilton, which is largely driven by profit considerations.
So here is what you do:
Start singling out individual news directors, reporters and anchors for fear mongering. How about you start with the Eyewitness News crew in New York, who started all this nonsense back in the 1960's? Name names from back in the day to now and hold them accountable.
Otherwise, a general screed like this is just another empty internet rant.
