David Hasselhoff: Ripped, Relished and Roasted (VIDEO)

The celeb sightings on the "red carpet" prior to the taping of The Roast had to be one of the most fascinating births of creative surrealism to come out of the womb of pop culture in some time.

"David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson and Jerry Springer are walking down a boardwalk when ..." Well, doesn't that sound like the setup for a bad joke? But it actually happened along the "red carpet" escapades prior to the taping of the Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff. The show, perhaps the most savage comedy event of the year, airs Sunday Aug. 15 and repeats thereafter.

Truthfully, those particular celeb sightings had to be one of the most fascinating births of creative surrealism to come out of the womb of pop culture in some time. But Comedy Central is banking on that.

Joining Springer and Anderson--looking smashing as ever in an obsidian gown--for the net's annual skewer fest were comics Lisa Lampanelli (as divine as ever), Whitney Cummins (she's come into her own as comedienne), Jeffrey Ross, Greg Giraldo, Gilbert Gottfried, and tasty pop culture creatures such as Hulk Hogan and George Hamilton. Family Guy creator and otherwise creative genius, Seth MacFarlane, took on Roastmaster duties, offering a surprisingly sophisticated element to an event that's designed mostly to spawn laughs.

Bottom line: MacFarlane is one of the best Roastmasters around.

So, how did the rest of the night unfold?

Let's just say The Hoff was drenched in jokes about booze, burgers and babes. (Would we/he have it any other way?) The star, whose celebrity took flight after appearing in hit shows like Knight Rider and Baywatch, took it in stride as the jokes came flying in, many targeting his stint on America's Got Talent and the notorious YouTube video that found him drunk and devouring a hamburger. (Fittingly, the show's after-party had burgers on hand for all.)

But how do you like your Hoff? Raw? Well done? We asked some of the stars of the roast that very question--and more. Take a look at my red carpet interviews:
